HELP!!! Do Jayco TT's measurements include the tongue?

I am about to drive 5 hours to buy a 1996 Jayco Eagle SL-240 (tomorrow morning at the crack of dawn), and I realize my driveway is exactly 24' long. Is the trailer measured from rear bumper to tongue, or is it box length?

I can't park it on the street where I live, in San Jose.

Thanks!

Dave

I'm not sure. But you said yesterday that you were buying it from a friend of a friend. To be sure have them measure it for you. Regardless of the answers you get here, have your friend have their friend actually measure it before driving 5 hours. No offense but you just thought of the actual length and your driveway's length? Model numbers can be misleading. I know by 264BHS is just about 30'....

Yeah, I thought I would park it on the street, not the driveway. This opportunity just fell in my lap wednesday, and tomorrow is the only day I can drive up there in the next two weeks. I have been forced to take a crash course in travel trailer 101 . Plus, the owner is not at the location of the trailer right now and can't measure until tomorrow. I really hate to rush into these things and I might just bail on it because of all the last minute stuff. From my web searches it really depends on the manufacturer as to how to total length is measured.

Typically,"travel length" will be bumper to hitch.

I understand. I wish I knew. I'm still new to this all too. I googled and couldn't get a definite answer for you... Hopefully someone will chime in that has one or knows....

NADA says overall length is 24 and in years gone by the model designation use to be the overall length bumper to ball. Not so anymore and it makes no sense that they changed.

If I understand your question you are wondering if the "240" indicates the camper's length. I can tell you my 320 is roughly the size of the "box", but published length is 35.5'. A 298RLDS is 34', and so on. Hopefully someone here has one about the age of the one you are talking about and can help, but ball to bumper lengths I'm familiar with are usually a few fee longer than the camper itself, and the model number isn't ruling.

Try going into the manufacturer's site and find specs on it. I know when I was shopping around, the salesmen would refer to the model # as the length, but I found that it wasn't the case anymore. For instance, my 28BHBE is 33'-3" long, and salesmen would refer to it as 28 ft, therefore I "wouldn't have a problem in State Parks". When campgrounds ask you what size rig you have, they want to know hitch to bumper.

Do not put much faith in detail knowledge of a trailer salesman. Some older rigs uses the tip to tip length. Years ago some used square ft. Now days, who knows. Best way to determine is with a tape measure.

That's exactly what I ended up doing, as I paced off the outside while salesman was talking and the numbers didn't add up. I went to my truck and came back with a tape measure and told him, and he looked at me like a deer in the headlights!

I measured my 338 rlts and its 39 feet from bumper to hitch ball. I remember when the model numbers were close to the length.

My J-feather brochure for 2007 lists my 25Z as having an exterior length of 27'10" and that matches the tape measure.
I think the model number is often, but not always the length of the box. When you think about it. Basing the model name on the usable length makes some sense.

I don't think common sense enters in to it. More marketing now days.

My X19H is listed at 20'8". Looks about right according to the tape measure.

Our Jayco 330RLTS is 33ft of box and 3 ft for the hitch and about 6 in for the bumper for a total of 36.5 ft.

Our Sunny Brook has a designation or 240 something and the box is 22 ft with the hitch and bumper adding another 3.5 ft. for a total of 25.5 ft.

Have someone measure it for you.
