Well that was a fail.......the pins wouldn't fit in once I put tension in the brackets. Back to square one.

Really? Their should be no tension on the bracket, it should stay shut without the pins at all, they are just a backup.

Does the pin fit when you close the bracket without the chain on, not under tension.

You probably got the 1/4 pins looking at the picture and need the 5/32. Go to a hardware story they usually have them or an RV dealer for sure. Isn't fun to have a Trailer with all the excitement what goes with it.
I am installing R12 insulation in the underbelly and shaking my head the shottie work I see. Wires and heating duct rubbing on the metal cross members. No wonder it is so much fun to have a TT. Good luck with the pins.

Sounds like the alignment of the pin holes is off just enough to make the fit tight. I would try wiggling the bracket handle around while putting pressure against the bracket with the chain on while trying to push the pin in. Or take a trip back to the store and get the next size down pin, a little slop won't hurt its just to hold the bracket in place. You may have better luck with sizing using a clevis pin, all the big box stores sell them.

Tried those too. I ordered the actual part I need from Reese but now I know I won't even be able to get the darn thing on. Something messed up the alignment of those holes. Wish I knew how to make it right.

You may want to remove the brackets, swap sides and hope it helps with the alignment. If that doesn't work I would drill out the bracket till the pin will fit, its only an insurance pin doesn't do anything until something very strange would happen to make the bracket move, as you know with all that tension its very hard to lower.

That looks way off. Are both sides off the same, I would remove one of them and see if the holes line up, then reinstall and see if it helps.

Took them both off and they are both the same. It must have been some magic pin he gave me because I cannot see anything working now without drilling the holes bigger. My husband is ready to divorce me.....I have been so focused on this damn TT I can't do anything else. The more I do the worse off I get. I am ready to crack!

Time to have the husband help you drill them out and put them back on and be done with it. Then you can leave town next week and enjoy.

I would recommend going to a place that sells hitches, not just an rv place. They may have the pin.

Don't drill it out. Get the correct diameter pin. I measured one of mine and it's a little less than 3/16" in diameter.
