Help with propane hoses

I'm having a big problem replacing a propane hose on front tanks.
The old leaky one is 1:4 inch (mip?) but every hose I buy is 1/4 inch too but smaller(compression?)

What is the bigger 1/4 inch called

And/or What should I be looking for in an adapter

E.g.; 1/4 inch female compression to 1/4 inch male mip.

Help?
The female connection I'm trying to screw the hose into is the'big' 1/4 inch.

The big 'female' one in the photo is the leaky one, and the one that fits.
The little one is all I can find to buy, but won't fit(too small)

I looked around locally and found those lines at a local RV park that also stocked RV supplies and parts. It's likely a mobile RV repair would carry them.

I did not find them at W*mart, ACE, or Home Depot.

Do you have a propane supply place nearby? They usually can/ will make hoses up as needed, and may have the correct fittings you need.

Most of the time they are a little cheaper than buying a pre-made hose as well.

Good luck finding the correct hoses!!!

Lowes has them. I believe they're 3/8" NPT with a 3/8" SAE flare fitting. Quarter inch is the hose size. Most 3/8" grill hoses are 1/4" hose with a 3/8" fitting.

To be clear. It's the little 10 inch- 1 ft hose at front connecting tanks. Lowes ones are longer and have they're own regular and end in a female, not male.

Can't believe I'm having such a hard time tracking down the right fitting or adapter on such a standard part.

So just to be sure. what's bigger in any given (male thread) size...SAE or NPT? NPT right?

I think I had the same issue. Look at the camco 59953 adapter.

A propane supply shop made up that exact part for me while I waited.

Is the bottom one in the pic the connecter you’re trying to screw in to the female connector mentioned to replace the top connector?

If you don't have a real propane shop, you can also try somewhere that specializes in outdoor cooking. I've got a BBQ/grilling shop near me that has a massive inventory or parts and fittings and they can connect up nearly anything for propane.

After striking out at lowes/Hdepot I followed advice and went to a little propane guy who of course had the adapter.

All these thread versions are very confusing. Kinda reminds me of a 2x4 not really being 2X4. Wonder if it's the same guy

The top one is the one I need n screws directly into assembly.
Everybody (amazon etc )sells the bottom one which is too small. They are both1/4 inch but bottom is comoression(too small).

Finally found the right brass fitting at a little propane place near me. I would never find this online

I had mine made cause the RV place didn’t have one the right length. As the guy was making it he asked why I needed it. Mine would no longer let the gas thru. “Oh, the check valve in the big knob is probably stuck.” Showed me how to gently rap the big end against something (the tank or 2x4 or...). I then had a spare pig-tail, still do.
That prob pops up pretty often on the JOF which makes me feel much better about not knowing about it. He also suggested I open the tank valve slowly to avoid the problem.
