Hitch and Sway Bar Wear and Tear

Still very new to all this. Took the trailer out for the first time after short drives to get it home and then load up. I’m not sure what kindness of wear and tear the hitch and anti sway bars should get during trips. Any advice would be great.

gperson26,

Welcome to JOF

Most WDH's require some degree of PM......, the brand/model WDH dictates what kind of PM is required to minimize normal wear.

What brand/model WDH do you have?

Bob

It always helps to post your tow and RV make, model and year to help give clear and accurate advice.

You can do it in your signature which saves doing it if you have further questions.

If properly set up and adjusted almost any WDH will last for years. Improperly set up ones will not work well.

X2 , what hitch setup do you have?

At minimum you should apply a little grease to the ball.

Some require a little grease or oil to wear points. Some hitches require tightening up some bolts every so often.

I grease my ball about ever 1000 miles, storage for me is not an issue. Some people wipe the grease off after every use, just to keep themselves and storage area clean.
