Hitch Carrier

Yup, it's me, another issue!

I have a cargo carrier I got from eTrailer in 2020 that is rated for 500lbs. I mounted it in the hitch on the rear of my trailer that is rate for 300lbs. I got a plastic box that I mounted to the cargo carrier (see pix below). The box has misc stuff in it that MAYBE weighs 100lbs. I noticed on my trip south this week from the frigid cold that the carrier bar had bent and by the time I reached my destination it had bent way more! It now can no longer travel, it is trash now.
I talked to eTrailer and they were like well the bouncing back there will cause that and oh well. If it is WAY under the weight capacity I wouldn't think it would bend.

Anyway I have decided to more the box to the bed of my truck and move the 2 bicycles in the bed of my truck to a bike rack on the back of the trailer.
Sooooooo questions......

What is a decent bike rack for back there?
Will I experience the same thing with a bike rack eventually bending??

FYI....if you click on first picture it will show upright

There are a few camper rated bike racks on the market now. I believe I have only seen 2 place racks. a Google search will be your friend. Generally speaking you will experience the same failures if you use a lightweight bike rack.

Might be worth stopping into a welding shop and see if they can reinforce your current rack with a heavy duty bar, and maybe even add a couple tie down points to the outer edges of the TT's receiver so you can tie the platform down so it does not rack/bounce so much.

Good luck

I have seen many bikes and platforms dancing around on the back of RVs and cars. I solved that problem with a gizmo consisting of a plate and U-bolt that holds it steady.

That flopping and bobbing around will stress the hitch and rack and has been the cause of many failures.
Cost about $12 to 15 bucks. Look them up as "hitch tightener".

Looking at that first pic, it looks like the carrier is coming out of receiver slightly down, like its not in tight versus the carrier being bent unless the bar itself is bent. I'd go with a reinforced weld which shouldn't cost much and a hitch tightener or shims for the reciever. Could have the same issue with the bikes and may be cheaper fix with a weld. Perhaps look at carriers with a higher weight limit and see where they are reinforced and just add those changes into this one.

The carrier is tight in the hitch! It does not move or bounce around. It's not coming out of the hitch, it's just bending.

I contacted the manufacturer and they are sending a new bar and welding reinforcements on it. Should be good to go with that.
