Holding tank attachment screws

I have a 2014 JayFlight 23MBH, and this weekend I had one of the safety straps for the grey tank come off. Upon further inspection, I found that some of the screws used were about 3/8 inch long. They seemed a little undersized for the job, so I replaced those ones.

I thought the same, but they are identical in length which seems unlikely to me. Unless they were self-tapping screws and all lost the very ends.

They are broke off. They are about 3 inches long. Found this out when my gray tank slipped out of the brackets and fell on the ground?? When I took out the screws half of them broke off. Used wood screws back and used metal straps to connect one side of the bracket to the other. One grand mess. Also put straps on the black tank just to be on the safe side.
