Hot Lights

We bought a new 2014 Jayco Flight Swift 267BHS. The day after we got it home we had the light on over the dinette for about 2 hours and when I went to turn it off (pressed the little button) the whole light fixture fell off the ceiling! It was extremely HOT too!!! We have noticed the other lights get quite hot as well. Looked at the LED and in BC at our RV center they are $72 for 6! To replace all of the lights we would need 22. We will look around to see if we can find them cheaper. Light fixture is under warranty but the heat to us is dangerous and a potential fire hazard! Any one have a similar problem or noticed how hot the lights get?

We also noticed how hot they get, and have seen posts with pictures of discolored light covers, so we decided to go with LEDs. You can get some inexpensive replacement bulbs from EBAY or Amazon.

Step on the brake pedal on your TV for 60 seconds then go grab the brake light bulb. It will fry your fingers. The 12v incandescent lamps in RVs get just as hot the fixtures are rated for that heat load.

That heat is the primary reason I have been making the change to LED. They aren't all expensive, plenty of low-cost options are available on EBay and Amazon. Just be really careful about the color temperature on them so you get the kind of light you like. Many of the readily available and more affordable options are too blue for my taste, so I look for warm white in the 2500K-3000K range. I would also go higher on the lumens than you think you need, it seems the LED puts out less light at the same lumen rating.

I was able to simple pull out the incandescent bulbs from the socket and replace with LED bulbs. About $2 a bulb. Did every fixture in the 5er for about $80

They also use 1/10th of the power and don't get hot.

You can get them online , but it takes a few weeks, or pay About $5 a LED at CW

I just replaced all the 922 bulbs in my 198rd with led bulbs I found on Amazon. It makes a HUGE difference. My converter used to kick on when I had more than two lamps turned on, now I can turn on EVERY lamp on and the converter does not turn on. The ones I found are the "warm white" type, so they are very close color wise to the incandescent bulbs. I bought 20 total for less than $50.
