Hot water heater by-pass valve in 2013 Whitehawk 28BHDS........

Where is the hot water by-pass valve in the 2013 Whitehawk 28BHDS? Is it okay if some RV antifreeze gets into the hot water tank? Thanks for any help........first time TT owner!

Most water heater bypass valves are located immediately behind the water heater.
Antifreeze and the water heater do not get along. If you got some in there don't let it remain. Remove the drain plug and rinse the tank well.

This is what the bypass values on the back on the water will look like for a three valve setup. Some setups only have two valves...

Notice the valves are oblong which can be used to tell you whether the valve is open or closed.

The middle valve in the first photo is probably turned wrong. It appears all three valves are OPEN in this photo

Some of the folks have reported they had to remove a panel to gain access to the rear of the water heater

I have the 28dsbh to..remove the pad from the bottom bunk and you see a panel at the far end of the bed. Remove the cover and its right there.

I agree with tnchuck, the antifreeze is not good for your cold water heater. Remove the plug from the cold water water heater and rinse the cold water heater out.

I just sanitized my water system for the first time and spent the better part of the morning racking my brain on where to locate the by-pass and wondering if my 2015 even had one. Finally did a quick search and bingo 10 seconds later after a overdue face palm I'm looking at my by-pass valve. Thanks! :-)

The only units that I know of that don't have a bypass valve(s) are going to be campers that have tankless water heaters.

Glad you found it and mine is in the same location under the rear bunk. Glad I don't need to access it but twice a year.

I connect to the city water connection and flush the lines for a while before opening the valves to the water heater, This should remove most of the antifreeze from the short stub of piping between the Tee and the shutoff valve at the tank.

Once I open the valve I flush the tank good, by opening the low point drain and the pressure relief valve. I like to fill it, and drain it a few times.

Once the lines are initially flushed I then sanitize.

Since I've made most of the bone head mistakes you can make I'll share that I once got a little anti-freeze in the HWH> It took a lot of flushing to get the "white foaming water" to clear. Consequently I'd be hooked up to city with a sewer connection when you flush or you'll run out of fresh water and grey tank capacity pretty quickly.

It's non-toxic but I wouldn't recommend using the "white foamy water"

I would flush the water heater out from the drain plug rather than the low point drains. My low point drains (2016 27DSRL) do not completely drain the water heater. I agree using city water and letting it run into the tank and out the drain plug would be the most effective way to do it. I would probably also temporarily plug the drain plug hole and let the tank fill and dump several times as well.
