hot water heater popping noise

When I fired up the hot water heater today (on propane) it made a loud popping noise when it ignited. Almost sounded like when a car backfired. It operated fine after that. Anybody ever have this happen or know what would cause that. Thank you.

If this was just a one time thing, I would assume a little air was in the gas line as it ignited. If it continues to do the same thing, don't use the LP and get it check out ASAP.

Our old Prowler travel trailer had to be lit manually. It would make a lot of screeching and popping sounds until the propane line was flowing good.
