hot water heater question

Hello all. I have a question about my hot water heater. I de-winterized my trailer today. I started the hot water heater. I tried just gas first. I am only able to run my electric to the trailer from an regular outlet from the house so I am trying not to use heavy demand on the system. So the heater comes on fires off and starts burning. it then after a short time shuts off. I go inside and try turn on the hot water at any faucet and it gets a little warm for a few seconds then goes cold. the heater doesn't come back on unless I turn the switch off for a few minutes then turn it back on. I traced it to the temperature limit that the 2 brown wires are hooked to inside the compartment with the ignition module and the gas valve. Any ideas why this would be getting to hot and tripping the limit? I think water is going through it. If it wasn't wouldn't I not be getting water out of the hot water side of the faucets? Any help would be greatly appreciated. IT is a 2019 29bhdb.

Don't feel dumb. We were all new to this camper stuff at one time and had to learn as we went. You didn't make a mistake, you had a learning experience .

Another WH ?,

Does the WH drain plug have/need a washer when installed? Mine has a slight drip but it's the first trip of the season, and may have crud in the threads from being left out for the winter. LOL

No washers. Most of them leak a little.

The plug (and heater tank) is pipe thread. The plug is self-sealing nylon.
