Hot Wire

We inherited a Jayco Jayflight 2g and so we are rookies. I was cleaning the camper and had the power plugged into an extension cord running to my shop.
After about an hour the cord got hot and the extension cord actually melted at the receptacle. What did I do wrong https://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/a...1&d=1628649836

From how dirty the un burnt pin is and how the rest looks i would guess corrosion build up that caused high resistance and heat.

your extension cord was not rated for you trailer. need a thicker cord. If you use a smaller extension cord you have to limit your power usage on the trailer. No air conditioning or micro wave. other items should be ok

Keep em' clean

X2 on the dirty plug, and X2 if you were using a 20A adapter. You have to limit what you run, usually no A/C with a 20A adapter. They will get hot during heavy usage if there isn't a good connection. Odd that your 30A plug melted, usually it's the 20A adapter. Leads me to think dirty connection.

Replace the outlet with new (not cheap 15 amp) and the plug end. Arcing happens with corrosion. It is like welding.

Welcome Aboard!

X2, I just had to replace mine. I have had to cleaned the tarnish off of mine many times over the years.

If you are using one of the really cheap 15 amp outlet to 30 amp adaptors, they have a tendency to also overheat especially if the contacts are dirty/corroded. Best to have a good quality dog bone.
