How I carry my bikes

Here is how I carry 5 bikes.
Had the bottom of the Thule bike rack welded so it no longer folds away. Also had them weld a tie down ring about 3/4 of the way up the post.
One tiedown strap goes around the hitch and hooks onto the tiedown ring. Hook another strap to the eye of the first strap at the tiedown ring, over the top of the rack and thru the bikes and back over the top.
These bikes aren't going anywhere.

I do something similar but without the welds but I only carry 3 sometimes 4 bikes. I use 4 ratchet straps. 1 to secure the bikes in addition to the racks factory straps, 2 at 45 degree angles and one dead center. The 3 straps pretty much take most of the bounce out of the rack. I'm confident mine aren't going anywhere either...

No wonder there are many problems with sway.
Average per bicycle @ 30 lbs. and double it if it goes a foot behind the bumper (leverage). Go figure. Then they are going to compensate by adding more Tongue Weight which adds in this combination also more weight to the suspension (which are already under designed). Also they wonder why the tires blow on them. And then they brag on social media how great of a job they did (by jeopardizing their family and other on the road).

Wow, because of bike racks?!??! That's pretty presumptuous of you. Even at 60lbs (30lbs to leverage you quoted) 6 bikes are only 360lbs combined. My stock hitch is advertised to carry 300lbs before I do any adjustments at all. Assuming I did adjust the load forward for more tongue weight, I'm sure that extra 60lbs isn't going to over-stress an "under-designed" suspension.

My guess is you need about 4-5 more pieces of real information before you could half-way make the generalizations you did in your post.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume you're a "glass is half-empty" kinda guy, aren't you?

Oh yeah, RAurand & Sombat, nice bike racks guys.

This is a typical ALJO answer, shaking my head once again.

ALJO,
For starters, I am no where near my GVWR on my trailer loaded for camping.
When carrying the bikes, I do not need to shift my tongue weight, I still use the 6th link on the chains of the WD Bars.. Therefore, I am not overloading my axels on the trailer when I add the 175 pound bikes and my 30 pound bike rack. I am actually much heaver when I load the trailer for boon docking than loaded for regular camping and we take the bikes along. So, According to you, when I am loaded for boon docking, my trailer is overloaded on the axels... Well, I beg to say, the CAT Scales tell me otherwise. My 5 bikes weigh a total of 175 pounds and the rack is 30 pounds, versus my 720 pounds when my water tanks are full for boondocking plus 2-48 pound generators.
AND, No, I do not have any sway issues.

I like your comments shrpshtr. You are correct.
AND. Thank you.
