How long should it take to get brake parts?
Hi, I have a 2013 Jayco Swift SLX 185RB travel trailer. I took it in to my local authorized Jayco dealer for some repairs and they told me I also need brakes. I have a single axle camper. I have been waiting 2 months and they keep telling me they are waiting for the brakes to come in. Does that make sense to anyone? Anyone else had problems getting replacement parts?

Usually they can be purchased locally and delivered in a few hours!

Two months seems a little out of line. You might call an independent Rv repair shop and see what kind of time factor they are looking at. I was at my local Rv parts/repair shop getting some grease seals and they had 5 brake sets in stock.

I just got my new brakes and drums today from Amazon. Took about 5 days. Your dealers worthless. You can put any brake on there as long as it has the same size mounting holes and the pads are the same size.

Your axle has a number stamped in it. You can use that number at the manufacturer's website to identify the correct brake parts. I had the brakes done last fall and they arrived in 2-3 days.

The way most RV dealers order parts and provide service is excruciatingly slow. As others stated, order parts yourself, or most trailer shops will likely do a much faster and maybe even lower cost job. Tell your RV dealer they are fired!

etrailer.com has drop-down menus where you enter your RV make, brand, model and year; then enter what you're looking for. Within seconds, they show you the exact brakes they carry. Last spring, I went there for new brake assemblies and found exactly what I needed - they even had a couple videos showing how to install them. Unfortunately, they were out of stock, so I went to amazon and found the same assemblies at the same price. They came in about 4-5 days and I installed them myself.
I'LL BET YOU CAN TOO!

Another vote for etrailer.com unless you just pick them up locally.
Three days for entire brake assembly (I changed from manual to auto-adjusting brakes).
The full assembly isn't much more expensive than the parts, and it is all new... easier, too.
For my Dexter 10", $156 per axle for standard, a little more for auto-adjust.
