How often to Reseal Aluminum sided and roof

So purely curious, how often to most people check the seals on the edges on specifically aluminum sheeting sided units (fiberglass may be the same?) and the roofs?

I had my dealer tell me to me check and potentially seal every 6 months. I know that especially on the roof and front vehicle spray area water intrusion can lead to eventual rot, but how often should you really expect to have to check and especially do re-caulking on the windows/corners and sealing on the roof?

My unit was purchased in July of 2015, and it needed resealing end of last season, so after a little over a year. Guessing it had been towed around 10k miles, which I am sure lends to faster wear on such items with movement.

Annual inspections I expected, and resealing I figured would last many years honestly.

Last weekend, the DW and I attended a "new owner" seminar at the dealership on how to de-winterize and care for travel trailers. The service manager advised the audience to begin each camping season by thoroughly washing the roof, then the sides of the trailer. He told us to carefully inspect the roof paying close attention to the perimeter since avenues for water intrusion might not be obvious. The front, the rear and along the gutter rails were critical, he said penetrations for a/c and other devices would be inspected also. He recommended using a Thetford product (two bottles) to wash the roof and to seal the roof. He went on to advise washing the front/rear/sides of the trailer, then to re-seal the corners with Quad caulk whenever it appears that the existing caulk might be compromised, perhaps every 2-3 years. He highly recommended caulking around Windows and other wall penetrations not later than the second year of ownership of the trailer. He recommended Dicor for the roof and Quad for the sides/front/rear.

Just be carefull on the upsell of RV products that are not needed. On the newer Dicor Diflex II, TPO roofs, the manufacturer states that other than washing, these roofs themselves do not require any special treatments or sealants. So that $20 a bottle roof stuff is not necessary and is not recommended by Dicor. The lap sealant and all around caulking should be checked a couple of times a year.
