How to power down trailer?
Hey new here. We just bought a 2016 267bhsw and are new to this RV thing. We had a truck camper briefly last year and could turn the battery power off with a switch, but I don't see that option for this trailer. Unhooked from the truck putting it away and I can still turn lights on and off and the trailer still has power. Will the batteries stay charged if all the lights and everything are off or do I need to disconnect the battery? Thanks in advance.

Disconnecting the battery would be best. There are power draws even if the lights and everything are off.

Thanks for the reply. Is there any issue with disconnecting batteries and systems resetting or not powering back on when reconnected?

Just the stereo resetting. Usually you just lose the time as the station presets are stored in memory.

Just pull the negative battery wire and tuck it down so it won't touch the positive terminal, you can buy a battery cutoff switch off Amazon for under $30. Just put it inline on the negative line.

You can set a battery disconnect. Switch at most any automotive parts store or even Walmart.

Its best to put the disconnect switch in the NEGATIVE path. There are usually two or three POSITIVE CABLES connected all the time. The DISCONNECT SWITCH will work in either position but the less cables to disconnect is the ideal situation.
If you have a lot of cables on both battery terminals then a BUS BAR with a short connection going to the battery terminal is a good solution where you can group all the connections with only one feed going to POSITIVE or NEGATIVE source...
BLUE SEA PRODUCTS from AMAZON is great source for these HD MARINE QUALITY 12VDC high current rating products.
It is best to used sealed switch units when switching things around the battery terminals to prevent a spark to set off an explosion from possible venting of battery fumes. All batteries with visible caps will vent very explosive fumes as part of the DC charging cycle... i.e. using a open blade knife switch is not a good idea... The sealed switches also prevents outside metal items from touching your 12VDC lines as well.

If all the lights are off, about the only things drawing power are the radio and the CO2 detector. Are you from Corpus? I grew up in Flour Bluff.

I have a kill switch at the front of the trailer to turn off the power from the trailer.
I have forgotten about it sometimes, when I have gone in tried to turn on the lights.
Takes about a minute , than O Yes the switch.

Before you pull the wires off the battery MARK THEM... for some strange reason the RV industry uses house color coding for the 12volt side so Black is + and white - instead of the much better red+ black-. Or you can just pull the fuse at the battery +
