I found it - jayflight thermal package limit

This weekend, I made a strategic decision. Nature showed me that this was a bad decision. I have a 2014 jayflight with the thermal package. We camped in sub freezing temps (15 F as the low at night, 37 daytime high). About 1:00 in the morning I learned the fresh water tank had started to freeze. The pump couldn’t pick up water. I switched to pulling water from a jug using the pump and the water line normally used for antifreeze. During the next day, the tank thawed midday and then froze again the next night. Also, the gray water tank also froze. The black tank did not. No pipes froze (that I found....fingers crossed).

So, now we know where the limit is. Lesson learned. And hopefully not one that shows itself later with cracked components. It was a very “light” freeze and so I am hoping we have been spared by physics.

I’m surprised you had freeze at those temps. Especially if you had the heat on.

I was surprised too. The heat was certainly running full bore. I suspect if I took down the Coroplast I would find a less than ideal insulation situation.

I am surprised the grey froze. Usually dishes from dinner and hot showers move the temps up enough to keep it from freezing overnight.

How difficult or easy was it to maintain a comfortable temperature in the living area? Were you using additional heat sources or just the TT furnace?

My fresh water tanks are mounted just ahead of the axles underneath. Regarding the gray, I am guess it was the water in the drain pipe that froze. But I have no way to know. The furnace did a great job keeping up. Maintained 68 F all night. It didn’t run constantly to achieve it. But off time was typically less than 5 to 10 minutes. I didn’t use any additional heat sources. If I get ambitious in the spring, I will pull down the underbelly to see how the ducting is laid out.

That’s interesting cause my 2016 trailer has seen 3 elk seasons now and I have yet to have anything freeze in the exact same temperatures you experienced. And that was only running the furnace in the morning and evening for a short time.

I have had my whitehawk down below zero F. I do have a skirt for it to block wind and maintain some residual heat loss. I wouldnt blink at 25.

I just have glacier package, i thought thermal was better?
