I'm so confused... grin!

I just discovered the battery on my lovingly used 198RD is a 24 Volt Marine battery. I know the systems are all 12 VDC so how is the 24 volt battery even working? Does the load center convert the 24 to 12? I was about to wire my new power jack directly to the battery, but now I'm hesitant. Time to get out the books. Can anyone offer an opinion on the 24 volt battery? Is this standard practice?

Are you sure? Because they (24v) are very rare. I have never seen one but hear they are used in some forklifts.
You sure it doesn't say group 24?

x2 on being GP24. The trailer companies love to provide the Interstate GP24 Batteries. Look on the battery case and give us the complete model number. I think my part number is SRM-24

If you have a multimeter measure the Dc voltage across the two battery terminals...

24VDC batteries are not a normal battery for use with the RV trailers.

Thanks guys... You were both right. When I cleaned the rest of the dust off of the battery (at your suggestion) low and behold... 12vdc. Now I need to cancel the order for the 24 volt charger. Man am I embarrassed but relieved. It was group 24.

Thank you all. I got caught up overcomplicating things in a big way. I am converting the trailer to solar and had just finished putting two AGM batteries under the front bench seat along with the inverter and charge controller. Next is running the wire through the cabinets for the remotes and then mounting the two panels on the roof. I will have 330 watts feeding the two batteries. We are heading for the Mogollon Rim this coming weekend to give the system a 5 day test. I thought I would keep the single wet cell battery on the tongue for the power jack and back up in case we drain the other two down too far. I wouldn't think we will though. We replaced all the lights in the trailer with led bulbs so we can run all of them with the power required to run just one of the old incandescent bulbs. We are looking forward to lots of time in the field.
