Insulation For Water Heater Area

We own a 2015 154BH and the water heater is located under one of the dinette benches (which is also our bed). In the summer it gets pretty toasty on that side. Has anyone insulated that area to keep the heat at bay and is it safe?

I would be careful insulating the HWT space, look in the manual for the HWT and it should list clearances to combustibles such as wood, insulation, etc., etc. I would just shut it off long before going to bed so its not throwing off much heat.

I would think the best thing you could do is drill a few 1” diameter holes near the top and bottom of the compartment to allow the hot air a place to escape, and cool air a place to enter. If you have a Cargo hold next to the WH, dump the heat into their.

I might suggest a thin sheet of pink foam, ideally foil faced, under the dinnet bench access lid. But honestly, if the 3-4 inches of cusions is to warm, I do not see how a little more insualtion would help. But it might.

Thanks for the reply Sundancer330. We've been shutting off the WH in the summer and it makes all the difference, just wondered if there was another solution. Now that cool weather is here we may be happy to have it on!

Thanks for the reply Jagiven unfortunately it is not near a cargo area. We will continue to not use the WH or remember to turn it off.
