You definitely need to raise a stink with your agent. That would be unacceptable to me.

No need to reinvent the wheel. Check with your auto insurer. I use American Family. I think my insurance is less than $200 a year.

Time to dump that company. They are gouging you BADLY. I have Auto-Owners. I pay $139.00 per year w/$250.00 deductible.

In NY the liability (damage to other people's property) coverage is automatically part of the tow vehicle's policy.

I added collision (damage to my property) for the new trailer for around $120 per 6 mo.

insurance 27bh

Progressive. 134.00/year for full coverage. I get a discount if I pay it in a single installment, 130.00. Whopp whoop. Had it since I bought. Finance company required it when I had a loan on it and now it is cheap enough to keep it just in case something happens.

Progressive here too but I don't know what we pay a month...the DW writes that check.
I had a Harley with them too and my TT rate was supposed to increase when I sold it but they never raised the rate. The real test of my confidence in them comes when I need to make a claim. My auto is thru USAA...great company but they don't write TT policies.

We went with Good Sam Ins. They broker a half dozen companies and came in way cheaper than our auto/home company, and cover contents, etc. also. Got a quote right over the phone.

Under 160 a year now with Progressive, 5 year vanishing deductible that has now vanished to zero. Rates will vary based on many factors including location and driver history.

I am an agent and would recommend Progressive. Now that companies charge for any claims against auto and home, having a stand alone policy that is not attached to your auto is the way to go with any recreational vehicles. I have AutoOwners, but my TT is on a Progressive Policy along with my ATV.

We got a quote from Good Sam at the dealer, and USAA was half the cost for the same coverage. Maybe it varies from state to state, but USAA didn't even blink at writing a policy for our TT.

I would pay the bill. Then start looking at options. Where you live has a lot to do with your premiums, how much coverage and how old you are, along with many other items. I pay just about the highest rate due to my zip code, that is because I live very close to 4 of the top 5 accident sites in the entire state, so my risk of an accident is much greater. I have State Farm and could not locate a better deal.

I would gather your documents from all your current policies, such as house, cars, toys, umbrella policies and so forth. Call multiple dealers, ask the same questions of each, and get the quotes in writing so you can try to compare apples to apples, which will be difficult.

Ask a verity of inquiring scenario questions; such as what would happen if I am parked in a campground and a flood comes through (connected or disconnected from the TV). What happens is the TT is stolen out of my driveway (storage lot), and so forth. Also ask similar type questions for all your policies. For example, I have an umbrella policy, due to my job. If I insure my HTT or antique car through someone else the umbrella policy does not cover those items. But if I owned a really big expensive boat, which State Farm does not cover, then I all I need was some type of document from the other insurance company (annually) then it would be covered. I pay a little more for my insurance on my antique car, but in the winter I can reduce the coverage, as it is not on the road, which makes it come out as a wash compared to the specialty insurance companies, but due to the umbrella policy I am much better protected.

Quick story; a coworker bought a brand new camper, put it on a seasonal site, bought the cheapest insurance she could get, to satisfy the loan. It was a specialty RV insurance, for season sites, so it was not insured to be on the road. About 2 months after buying it, a freak summer storm came through and dumped 20 inches of rain in just a few hours. The creek flooded, then the entire CG, she had a couple of FEET of water inside the unit. Insurance company came out and totaled the TT. Coverage denied as she did not have flood insurance. She had to pay the loan close to $40K off, with no insurance money, then she had to buy a new TT. By the time she was done, she was out $80K and only had one TT to show for it.

So make sure you have the right insurance, and that you can justify the risks.

Many TV policies will cover your TT, but only as long as it is hitch to the TV. The minute it is unhitched, wether you unhitched it or it accidently becomes unhitched on the road, coverage ends.

We are with USAA. Quoted $386/yr for a $250 deductible 300,000 comp and collision. Goes down to $205/yr with a $1000 deductible. Everything is more expensive where we live unfortunately.

Did not ask about when trailer is not connected to TV. Just assumed it was covered still so thanks for that tip. I will call and ask! Will also look into Progressive as a stand alone as UpNorthMGOBLUE suggested above. Does that prevent rates from increasing on the trailer insurance if we had a claim on the home or auto?
