Inverter Install Questions

I'm looking to install an inverter on my TT but not sure where to locate it. I was looking to get it as close to the battery as I could without getting too much in the way of storage up forward.

Its a 2300w inverter so its not very light. There doesn't seem to be much strength in the luan material in the forward storage area –*though that seems the logical place to install it.

Curious where others have installed them?

The inverter has a couple standard 110v receptacles on it. Does anyone wire it directly to the trailer's converter/charger? Or does it make sense just to use an adapter and plug-in using the RV shore power cable whenever I need to use it?

Appreciate the insights!

Not sure where your batteries are should the inverter be as close to batteries as possible?

Batteries are up on the A-frame behind the propane tanks. I've read that its best to be as close as possible or else you're running larger gauge wire to it.

I mounted my 1500Watt inverter in the front storage compartment on the front wall. I also installed my fuses and SOLAR breakers on a board that goes against the front wall or I can swing it out for maintenance. It is on a piano hinge. Works fine. The inverter is mounted just to the right of my home made DC control panel, I will see if I can locate a picture of it.

I also ran a Romex electrical cable from the inverter to the rear storage area where the shore power connection is. I installed (2) RV receptacles one has the shore-power coming into it, and the other has the Inverter power in it. The cable with the RV male plug is then plugged into the service I want to use Shore-Power or Inverter power. Now I would spend the $60 and install an Automatic Transfer Switch back there (Amazon).

Good luck with your project. Oh, how much battery power do you have (Ah's)?

It all starts with a pencil and paper.... after drawing out, it is sooooooo much easier to understand and install.

That's a great looking setup. I love the idea to have the board swing out for maintenance! This helps me out a lot.

For batteries I was looking at a starting with a pair of Lifeline 6V AGM. I can get them locally at the shipyard near where my father's boat is kept. The GPL-4CT is rated 220Ah. I felt if needed I could add another pair later on.

Don, you've given me a lot to ponder and I do have a drawing –*but I think I'll rethink a few things!

Thanks!!

I did run 2 strings #14 wire to the panel and used 2 way switches to supply to a few plugs and the fridge (circuit1) and Microwave (circuit 2)

It is easy just to plug in the shore-power cord into the inverter, but I wouldn't recommend it. Because it is easy to overload the inverter that way.
