Is adding a shower surround necessary?

I recently purchased a 2003 jayco jayflight 27bh. The trailer is in great shape, I dont think it was used very often and stored in a pole barn. I noticed the newer trailers have shower surrounds, mine just has wall paper. Will the wall paper hold up and not cause any water damage or should I add a shower surround? I would appreciate comments from those who have had just wall paper on the walls in the shower area. I dont want to spend the extra money on a shower surround if its not necessary. Thanks

If the vinyl wall paper is in good shape, it should be good.
If that's the way they did it in 2003, should work.
The bathtub has a flange that comes up the side.

We used to have this type of shower and it was fine. We always wiped it down after each shower use with a very absorbent microfiber cloth. Mostly because we are obsessed with keeping things nice and tidy. The walls/tub were always nice and dry.

My 2012 154BH still has vinyl paper (to save weight / cost I assume) - I am keeping an eye on the bottom caulk seams around the tub. If they become compromised - I know trouble wont be far behind.

Once you have a shower surround, you'll wonder why you put up with a tub, shower curtain, and constantly mopping the bathroom floor. When we upgraded from our FB22, we couldn't find anything in our size/price range that wasn't a tub. That was a deal breaker and Jayco lost us.

I believe Hazlet is referring to plastic on the walls, not a door on the opening of the shower. My 2010 Z came with just the wall paper. I know many people do not use their showers very often. I use my shower just about every weekend and every day on vacation, so I had a shower surround installed. I do have friends that use the shower with just the wall paper and it seems to work ok.
