Question Is washing/waxing necessary?

Hi all
Is washing my RV necessary?
Is waxing my RV necessary?
if so, how often should I wash/wax?

Do I need any special substance?
Can I just use streak remover from Walmart?

Please educate me.
Thanks.

I use the camco RV solution and wash after ever trip. I have people ask if its still new and the trailer is on its forth season. When I wash I look over all the seams and make a mental note if I need to re caulk something. And I also check the room. I clean the roof 2-3 times a year with a dish soap mixed with water

Keeping the roof clean is the best thing you can do to reduce the black streaks on the sides. I wash my trailer several times each year with Simple Green Car Wash and a soft long-handled brush made for washing cars and trucks. I use the same to clean the roof. I wax it once each year - which is a big job on a 32' trailer!! But it keeps everything looking like new!

I decided to try the black streak/bug remover on the front of ours, and it worked great, except it also removed the wax. From now on, I'll just wash the bugs off the old fashioned way. Cleaning your TT will keep it looking newer longer.

No. It just keeps it looking pretty longer. It doesn't extend the life, doesn't get you better mileage and doesn't sleep more people. I don't wash things too often... My RV is parked under a carport. My truck is parked under a dirty tree. I try to wash and wax the truck once a year, mainly because of road salt in the winter.

I wash my rubber room at least once an mostly twice per season. The trailer gets stored all winter (November -April). I wax it with a wash and wax solution at least once each summer. It makes it easier to clean the bugs and road grime off after a trip. It gets soft brush cleaned after every trip. It still looks like new after 4 seasons.

Yes Dream Girl you should always keep your trailer clean and protected from the elements. We use Meguiar's Ultimate Wash and Wax to wash and Meguiar's Ultimate Quik Wax to maintain the shine and protection. A good paste wax along the way is beneficial. Always check the seals for fractures remember with an RV WATER is your enemy.

I too am of the lazy persuasion and don't wash/wax things too often; the inside I do try to keep clean.

Does it need to be washed and waxed, probably not. Does it make it look nice, probably.

For streak removal, I have heard Simple Green works, I use Spray Power. It's cheap, and easy, I use it full strength. It does a good job removing bugs from the front cap.

I try to wash regularly, I use McGuire's car wash with wax. It cleans nicely, not sure if it waxes as nicely. But one step does all. Our htt looks nice.

I wash and wax our Bungalow and our 33RLDS 2 times a year. Roof also. When I start it takes about 4 days on each, it depends on the weather.

Use the same products and so does a local detailer. More resale and just pride in your equipment. Why wouldn't you do all you can to protect your investment?

I clean and put EPDM roof protectant on it as well as wash/wax the entire rig every six months. Now the truth: It is done every six months, but I don't do it. Vertigo problem so no roof for me and too lazy for the waxing. Fortunately I have a couple of locals guys that do it for a reasonable price. The wax guy does my truck also.

Well, you are supposed to inspect your roof, caulking, seals... Unless your have your dealer do that, you might as well wash your rig.
