It's Home! !!!

Our new trailer - 2016 White Hawk 23MRB - is home! (Pic is at the dealer's.) We thought we'd be able to pick it up last week, but the shop was short a guy, so we had to wait till Monday. We got there (there being about 90 miles away) and they were still little-bit working on it, just installing the slide topper. That was okay, 'cause we did the payment stuff first.

We had lunch in the trailer, made pix and notes about all the little tiny things wrong (most of which we can fix ourselves, and many of which we have fixed now), and checked all the eight million things on the 13-page PDI checklist we got somewhere here or otherwise online. Then we did their walk-through. Nothing deal-breaking was wrong.

A funny thing was that they thought there was something wrong with the door. There's not. It's a friction hinge door, which means it stays open no matter how little or much you open it. The DW thinks this is wonderful. It was the first such door the dealers had ever seen, so they were excited to learn about it, too.

We called Camping World for a quote on the weight-distribution/sway bar combo, and as it was about twice what RV City wanted to charge us for the same thing - and CW didn't have it in stock, and was back up in Tucson anyway. We got the hitch/bar there at RV City and drove home.

First time towing anything this big/heavy. We could both feel it, driver and passenger, but it wasn't scary, just gonna take some getting used to. Apparently, the air that big rigs push ahead of them hits the trailer, and wobbles the TV a bit; I may need to play with the sway bar adjustment. The only real disappointment is that the expensive new mirrors don't really help much. Ah, well.

Since getting her home, the DW has laid a Persian-look carpet in it, and matched paint samples to it so the accessories will match. Now we're figuring out the storage and what containers we need. DW wants me to paint the unfinished wood - under the dinette benches, and on the bed platform. Meanwhile, she is looking for a shoe rack and for an over-the-toilet etagere for the bath towels.

We haven't had "the Cabin" out yet, but we did have drinks and dinner in it Monday night. And we've discovered we can get the car around it on the driveway even when the slide-out is out. (I did have to turn the 30 amp plug upside down so the power cord would fit the receptacle, but that was easy, too.)

We hope to get out on our first trip in about a week, but that depends on some other scheduling over which we have no control. Fingers crossed - and YAY!

Congrats on the new TT! The tractor trailers that are in front of you will buffet you around some. If it's disconcerting, just back off them a little. Also, when they start to pass you, or you passing them on an interstate, you'll feel a little "push" when alongside. Nothing to be alarmed about, just aware of when they do. We find the worst air disruption is when a 10 wheel dump truck comes towards you in the other lane. For some reason, they push you around more than a tractor trailer going the same way. First noticed that while on the motorcycle. Have fun with her!!

Congrats on the new TT. We also had to adjust our Equalizer sway bars after towing home. Wait until you have the TT is fairly loaded. Just follow the manual, it is very easy. Made a major difference in towing.

Congratulations! Tractor trailers tend to pass slow so you can brace yourself. Tour buses, they'll scare the living bejeezus out of you. I was going 65 and got passed at 80+ by a tour bus. Even with sway control it nearly pulled me into the other lane. Just another things to watch out for. Safe travels!

X2 on what milw156 said about a tour bus. Ditto what JFlightRisk said about trucks coming the other way. We use the strap on type tow mirrors and a truck coming the other way nearly caused us to lose the driver side. Now we tighten those straps good and tight when installing for towing. And then tighten some more if possible (especially after some rain).

Congrats on your new toy. I've had mine for 12 months and still find little things wrong. Suspect it will take a little while longer to work out the bugs. Have fun.
