J-Steel Sofa?

It appears there is plenty of space that could be used for storage under our sofa but it isn't accessible, at least I can't find away? Is there a way to open the valence in front with out destroying it? Really, seems there should be drawer there like on the sleeper sofa with inflatable mattresses.

Our sofa has a storage drawer under it.

Our Designer 5er has the same problem - lots of space under the J-steel, but no opening in front to use it. We have a lot of other space available, but, if needed, we raise the bed part of the J-steel to a 45 degree angle, and hold it up while squeezing the stuff into the space. Incidentally, the way this sofa is upholstered, there is no way to make a front opening without removing the fabric.

The front fabric panel of ours is attached by a couple of metal hooks that go over a pipe that crosses the front and access can be had by simply swinging it up. We access this space by doing what tinlizzie23 does (raising the seat to a 45 degree angle) and then swing up the panel. Then you can simply slide items along the floor and under the couch.

When you look at the pics you will see " cafe clips" holding the original valance cover( now cut in 2- 3ft pcs) on to the pce of electric tubing. Larry

My valence does not lift off, it just swings up. Also my sofa will balance in a "V" shape so I can get down on the floor and lift the valence to gain access to the storage under the sofa.

Yes, you should be able to just lift the sofa part way and it will stay there. Then you're free to swing the valence up and still have a free hand to move stuff around in the space.

Thanks everyone or the help. I checked my trailer today, and sure enough the valance lifted just like everyone said. Little embarrassed I didn't figure this out on my own.

Nothing to be embarrassed about. This thread helped more than just you. If you didn't know there are a lot of others that did not know too. The only way you should feel embarrassed is if you did not ask and could not use that space.
