Jack foot

After you hitch up do you remove your jack foot? I have never done that but wondered if anyone else does?

When we had a TT, I always removed the foot and retracted the jack as far as possible. You never know when you might encounter a dip in the road that suddenly lowers the hitch and digs the jack into the ground. Been there, done that.

I don't bother on any of my trailers. They are all retracted higher than the bottom of the hitch. If I manage to get something up in there that high, I've got bigger problems than just a bent jack.

I always remove the jack foot. I'm too afraid that all the bouncing around while in route could cause to foot to slip off and possibly cause damage or injury.

We never remove the jack foot and have never come close to hitting it on anything.

I got tired of having to remove the foot on my 19BH so I opted for a Fastway Flip automatic jack foot. (www.fastwaytrailer.com). Works like a charm. Retract automatically as you raise the jack and tucks away neatly under the hitch. Very handy.

I did all the time on my last trailer, but this time the guy at the dealer said there was no need to since the foot is up higher than the hitch, so far I haven't on this set up.

On m jack there are several holes ou can set the "foot" height on and I usually set the foot to make it so I have to raise the jack less. Then when I raise the jack for towing, it is simple to take the foot off an way. I think in my case it is just easier to take off the foot instead of re positioning it. It has a quick release on it and takes less time than trying to raise the jack all the way up.
