Jay Flight 26BH airconditioner

I have a deposit on a 26BH TT that I am questioning the 13K air conditioning for the summer heat. I live in Florida and temps get into the 90's all the time. But we lived in Delaware and we got temps in the 90's there as well. I haven't had a trailer like this for some time and I am wondering should I go for the 15K air, or is the 13K adequate for this size unit?
I was told that I would have to wait for 4 months to get a ordered trailer versus one that was already online and waiting to be shipped. I would love to hear from anyone with a like size trailer and see what there experience is with a 13K or a 15K A/C.

I had a 09' JayFlight 26BH. I thought the 13K A/C was adequate. We have 90*+ heat in the summer and I thought it was fine. I could make an argument for the 15K as well.

We ordered a 28BHBE and I think it was about a 6 week wait. I would suspect that 4 month time frame you were quoted could be: un knowledgeable sales person; and/or sales tactic to sell a trailer today.

Regardless of which way you go, spend a ton of time shopping your deal. Call other dealers in your region. There are online dealers who sell at 'rock bottom' prices. Make sure you are looking at the most reasonable numbers before agreeing to a price.

We went for the 15k a/c on our TT which is a few feet shorter than the 26BH. We live in the desert but usually RV in cooler climates up north. Getting there we still encounter temps near 100 and we are so glad we got the larger a/c. If we were in Florida as you are, I could not imagine having the smaller unit. If you look for that model on-line, you may find one with the options you desire. Also be sure to get a quote from one of the on-line dealers so you can negotiate the price down when you find the trailer. Just my .02 cents. BTW, welcome to the forum too!

Our previous camper, a 264BH (same layout as 26BH), had the 15k a/c. It worked well and we never had to put it on the "High" setting. That's nice because the a/c makes less noise that way. I have no experience with the 13K, but I'd spend a few bucks more and get a 15K. It's only a $150 option. And that's MSRP price so it's even less in the end. I'd prefer to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it...

When we bought our 2013 26BH, my dealer told us they only order trailers with the 15k ACs for their lot. Missouri does not have the humidity levels experienced in Florida but I'd be looking for a unit with a 15K AC if it were me.

Our 26BH, and now our much larger 29QBH, both have 13.5 AC and we have absolutely no complaints. We live in central California, if your not familiar it's hot here, 100*-110* most of the summer. Although we don't have humidity so to speak so I can't attest to the 13.5 ability to remove moisture.

Thanks for all the replies to the air conditioner. It would seem that for the money difference it would be a wise choice to go with the 15K. My wife wanted to know if it made any more noise than the 13K A/C.
One poster made sense that the 15k didn't have to run on high speed which would make the noise less, I hope that's true.

Thanks again.

I've had both units, but not in the same camper... I doubt one would notice a 'significant' difference between the noise level of the two units. Both are loud...

When we had the 13.5 unit we would turn the a/c off when we would eat at the table so we would not have to shout at each other.

2 A/C units is much more convenient. Thant's pry not an option for your floor plan.? But if it is, I would rather spend the money on a second A/C. When your at the table, run the bedroom a/c. When in the bedroom, run the other A/C.

These are champagne problems, and I'm only putting the second A/C out there for a comparison.

Lead time seams reasonable to me. We ordered a 27BHS first half of november and it is not in yet.

Not sure if we need it but We ordered to second air unit and the arctic package. We took the more is better approach.

I have often wondered why there is only 1500btu`s difference in these units and how much difference can that really make? Looks like they should offer a 13K or a 20K unit for example so you could get some real muscle out of one unit if you needed it.

I wondered that, too. 13.5k to 15k is only about a 10% improvement. That seemed marginal to me so I didn't get it.

On the other hand, 13.5k to 20k is about a 30% improvement. I believe I would have chosen that.

I live in central florida and the 13k does fine we been camping in august and September with no problems . The noise doesn't bother me but the temperature range is a little annoying one minute it ice cold then warm up.

We had a 2013 26BH and went with the 15K AC unit. Living here in south TX it gets hot and sometimes very humid. During the summer (90's and above) heat the 15K during the hottest part of the day cycled quite often to keep it cool inside. We were really glad we went with 15K AC.

15 K here. (25 bh) I wouldn't want anything less in the Fl & desert heat I went through on last trip past summer. These TT's can build heat fast in sun exposure. I covered my windows with beach towels when in the SW to shield the sun light as the shades that came with the TT didn't do much except block out the glare. You can put your hand on the walls & feel the heat. Also I found that the roof portion of the slide out (when open) gets real hot. I'm going to look for an awning for that next time.. I now try to park strategically in accordance with the southern exposure if I can & have the front (bedroom) or rear facing towards the most sun exposure to minimize the heat soak that the walls encounter. Better yet is find a tree covering spot.
