Jay Flight 28RLS vs SLX 265RLS

Good Morning,

My wife and I are looking at upgrading from our 2017 SLX 212OBW. These are the two models we have narrowed it down too. I was wondering if anyone had any information about the difference in the SLX vs the Jayflight (besides the 2 extra feet). We wanted were drawn to the shorter length of the 265 but wasn't sure if the extra options on the 28 would negate that. Also wondering if that extra length would even make much difference?

Any info would be appreciated! We were also recommended a Heartland Mallard M27, but not sure we want to switch over to a different manufacturer.

Thanks!

Last summer we were looking at those same two trailers. There are 4 of us...wife and me, 12 year-old daughter, and our dog. The only thing we preferred in the SLX was the direct entry from the shower to the bedroom, and the absence of that direct access is what finally killed the Jay Flight for us. Everything was in favor of the Jay Flight - table and chairs, 2 air conditioners (requirement for us), the under-counter and under-sofa accent lighting, even the stupid 5-way remote. The costs were close and the weights were similar and I actually wanted the extra 2 feet of length, and the only reason we didn't order the 28RLS was that lack of privacy going from the bathroom to the bedroom. When our daughter brings a friend I don't need her to see me half undressed, and I certainly don't need to see the friend half undressed either. The obvious solution for us was the Eagle HT 27.5, but not everyone's mileage will be the same.

We bought our SLX 265 RLS about 6 mounts ago. Love it. Lots of room and we like the bathroom setup also. The large rear window is great. From what I gather, the SLX does not have all the bells and whistles, but there is not a thing that we are missing. The grey and black tanks are a good bit larger than what we had in our last camper, which is nice. Very pleased with our Jayco.

Our 2015 27RLS JayFlight is very similar to the 28RLS. I believe there was a WhiteHawk that had a similar floorplan offered that year.

We picked the JayFlight because...
- Kitchen drawers
- Alum siding
- Windows at both ends of the slide
- Elite package items (many! Including black tank flush, hold-open upper cabinet doors)
- Optional skylight
- Optional rear vent
- Roof ladder
- 80 gallon fresh water tank
- Optional aluminum rims
- Optional vinyl floor
- IIRC, the wardrobes in the master bedroom of the JF had a shelf under them and the WH it was a solid wall at the head of the bed.

That's what comes to mind this morning.

Happy trailer shopping!

I had a 265, sold it and bought a 245RLS and like it better. So many choices to choose from these days.

We're about 2 hours south of you just over the PA border. The trailer we have now is a 23' box and we have one 15K AC. It cools the trailer down (takes a while) but when it gets really warm out the one unit doesn't keep it exactly comfortable. I'll never have one air conditioner again.

When we were shopping, IMHO, the differences in the Jay Flight over the SLX were worth it. Seems the Jay Flight is more solidly built.

We have a 28RLS. 95% of the time it's just me and my wife so the bathroom privacy issue isn't an issue for us. One of the must haves was the table and chairs versus the dinette.

Oh if it was just the wife and me and our daughter the privacy would be no issue for us either. You live with somebody you know them pretty well .

For us the dinette is worthless. It's not comfortable and takes up a lot of space. If it made any sense we'd all have dinettes in our homes but I've yet to see that.

Having the chairs and table allows folks of different sizes to make themselves a little more comfortable. The larger shower, table and chairs were my wife's must haves. My must have was an F-250 to pull it .

In our last trailer we hung a curtail rod and curtain to aid some privacy on those rare occasions we had someone camping with us. Of course you can't lock a curtain so having the two entrances to the bathroom makes sense given your situation.

In looking at the two floor plans it looks like the extra 2' in the 28RLS gives you a little extra room around the foot of the bed and a little extra in the area of the entertainment center. Hard to say if that would be all that important to anyone.

It's funny, although I like the added amenities of the 28RLS (especially the practical ones, as I do most of the setting up / maintenance), the other half preferred the dinette to the table and chairs and wanted the linen closet in the bathroom. So we pulled the trigger on the 265RLS. It was ordered from the factory yesterday, so it should be here in 4-6 weeks. Now here's to hoping all of the snow will be melted by then...
