Jayco 198RD Modification?

I'm a new owner of a 2014 Jayco 198RD and have wondered if anyone has done any mods to this camper or something similar? What I'm really interested in is the couch and dinette. They are very close together, like less than a foot apart when the couch is opened. I'm thinking together, these would make one queen size sleeping area. So I would need some kind of spacer between them. Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Mark

Saw your post a few years ago. Got me thinking:

My wife purchased our new 2014 198RD as we were at the beginning of the empty nest phase. It was the perfect size for us and did provide additional sleeping using the dinette and folding couch, for normal sized people. However, our son is well over six feet and he didn't quite fit on the dinette sleeper when we used the TT on a duck hunting trip after recently purchasing it. Since then we have tried to figure out a a way to utilize the both the dinette and the adjacent couch as a single unit when both are in the sleeping configuration. However with both in sleeping mode there is an approximate 8" gap between them. So a few weeks ago in preparation for an upcoming fishing trip, we decided to solve this problem. We built two 8" wide boxes using 3/4 " plywood which sit end to end. This worked great and resulted an a "RV queen" size bed which was actually slightly longer than the main bed. When not in use the two boxes can be used inside for a storing bedding or used outside as a bench or table. All in all it worked very good with minimal investment.

This is the finished result. I can take a few of the boxes along with the measurements if you are interested.

Very interested in this. If possible, could you please show the boxes? And did you add some extra cushions to the mix?

Thanks!

198RD sleeping mod

I'll work on getting some photos of the boxes.

No extra cushions used or needed. The dinette cushions are slid over towards the couch cushion. When in actual use (this photo was demo only), the couch armrests are removed and placed in the gap between the dinette cushions and the exterior wall. Not needed for sleeping but provides pressure on the dinette cushions, preventing them from moving.

Couple of thoughts:

1) is your furnace under the couch? Mine is and have you allowed for that?
2) Which side does your head go? :-)

1) There is a furnace vent (one of two) under the couch. We did not plan for that. However, we did use the furnace with heat coming the from the forward vent only with no issues.

I think it would be no problem to cut vent access holes in one the boxes if needed.

2) My son slept with his head on the couch side, easy access to the light underneath the cabinet.
