Jayco 2000 Model # 244B power converter issues
Hello,
I have a 2000 26ft Jayco Qwest TT. In 2019, my power converter blew! I was told that my generator was the cause of this, as the voltage regulator was bad; combine that with no surge protector, bad waiting to happen!
In 2019, I bought a new WFCO 55 AMP (direct replacement) power converter, new surge protector, & 3000 Watt Honda generator. Been using this ever since, no issues.
We went dry camping over Memorial Day of this year. I get up Sat morning, start the generator, plug in trailer, we are not charging batteries. Check connections, but no charging. Using a multi meter we check batteries, verify we are not getting a charge. We then use my friend’s solar panels that he is using to charge his batteries, plug it in and again we are not charging, ugggh!
Using an external battery charger, my surge protector, and my friend’s solar panels, remove batteries from trailer, connect external charger, works fine. We do this the rest of the weekend to charge batteries,
We remove power leads from bus bar, and isolate power converter, using multi meter test it, and it’s bad.
Does WFCO have an issue with the power converters blowing?
My thinking is if it had a surge in electricity, the surge protector would have been tripped, am I thinking correctly?
For today, I have to buy a new power converter, which will temp fix the issue, but I am confused why the power converter keeps blowing,
Any ideas,
TIA,
Clay
