DW uses ours a lot to store canned and other food, bottled water, sodas, beer etc. Heavier stuff we don’t want on the pantry shelves. Besides being a little more “climate-controlled“ it is much better having it divided off rather than having stuff sliding around into the cargo area. Plus my dusty rolled up patio rug isn’t up against foodstuffs.

@Jay2504 Did you just go with thicker plywood in the same configuration?

Same here. Plus you get the support across the middle.

No, 1/2" ply wood with the hinge at the blocked off cross support. It's about half way back from the front. Also removed flimsy side panels and put the ply wood all the way across and reattached the panels on top of the ply wood. Very strong and looks good.

I can’t find the pictures, if you really want to see some, look at my mod thread. I used a stick of 1.5x1.5 inch angle aluminum 1/8” thick IIRC. I had to add another strip of wood next to the center rib. I also used 2 layers of 1/2 inch foam board to insulate under the bed and around the bed stand. I also put one of the angle aluminum on the wood frame where the lift cylinder attaches. While I was there I added more hinges to the front of the bed, the factory ones were installed crooked. Later I added a grab handle underneath the foot of the bed to make it easer to raise it. Jay

Hello.

I got the same bed issue with my 2020 Jayco 212QB to the point that it was unsafe. I was able to partially got it fix by the dealer as I had to makes some corrections to the work the dealer have done. I have not closed off the space under the bed, but only added a 2 by 3 accross the top to support the bed frame and put small pieces of wood under the seems between the two sheets of plywood to reinforce everything. It makes a big difference.

Yes that will help a lot. I also ran a brace like that, but used metal angle brackets, to bolt the brace to the 2 upright boards at each end of the opening. Between doing that and the aluminum angle reinforced wood strips that tie the 2 sheets of plywood together, I now have no problems. Jay

Those struts are going to break loose too. Not installed properly.

As far as the bed goes yes they are not good, so we bought a new mattress from Brooklyn bedding weighs about 30 pounds more. Reinforced the plywood by running supports from side to side, and under the bed I built reinforcements in the shape of boxes 20 inches high 4 inches wide by 24 inches long. Attached the two box frames together with a board for better stability, and with doing that we are still able to use most of the storage space. So far this has worked great for us I hope it will help you too.
