Jayco FW Tank Overflow Tubes

As mentioned in the past, I joined and put a shutoff valve on the two overflow tubes from my TT fresh water tank. This was done to prevent syphoning of water while driving from the fill station to a campsite.

I did it to prevent the syphoning yet wondered if it would help for dirt, bugs, wasps, etc. from entering the FW tank when it was not in use. I always shut the valve once the tanks were full or if I was not using the TT.

Today I went to fill the tank at home since we are only going 10 miles to the State Park tomorrow and I'd rather not do it as I arrive and found that something had put a plug in the valve.

I filled the tank until water came out the normal overflow spot, near the fill and the spot with the screen. (The overflow tubes do not have a screen) No water came out the overflow tubes until I used a solid #12 wire to probe the valve end and get out the larva that was put into the valve.

Now I'm sure I will keep the valve and suggest that everyone somehow covers their overflow tubes for the same reason.

The valve end was plugged totally.

I used these in the end of the overflow tubes:

It won't prevent siphoning but it keeps the bugs out.

WARNING. I also put valves on my overflow tubes recently. I was having the siphon effect drawing out what I estimate to be 15+ gallons of my water!!!!

So after the install, I decided to fill the tank depending on the vent near the fill hole to let the air out. Worked great and I did in the process confirm that my vent was hooked up.

HOWEVER, there was a leak in the fill hose. I mean the hose from the fill opening to the tank. I'm sure I could fix it, but haven't yet. Just wanted to mention it as a gallon or so could have dumped into an hard to access - and not visible - place had I not checked....

Until fixed - I will leave the overflow valves open until they start flowing hard - then close the valves and then shut off the water.

This is exactly what happened to me. I want to fix or replace the filler tube, any tips on how to make it an easier job?

It's pretty hard to get to from the inside on mine. I suspect it is leaking around the clamp between the fill hose and the fill opening. I think it would be much easier to remove the fill opening, fix up the leak and then put it back in, resealing it to the outside wall of the camper.

Honestly, the more I think about it, the less likely I am to do it!
