Jayco JayFlight battery wires cut

I recently had my battery stolen and wires cut on my trailer. Luckily they were cut close to the battery so I shouldn't have to replace any wires.

There were 3 wires cut. The positive, negative and another red 10awg wire. I don't see anywhere that the small red wire connected to, so I don't know where it goes. I thought maybe someone could tell me. I'm thinking it must have connected to the battery but I'm not sure.

We purchased it new last year and I never looked at the battery to see how it was wired.

Any help I could get would be great. I have a new battery, I just need to fix the ends and reconnect, but need to know where this other wire goes.

Do you have a power tongue jack? It's almost certain it connected to the battery as it seems it's cut like the rest. I would attach to the + side of the battery with the other red wire and call it a day!!

The only other thing I’ve heard hooked up there are electric brakes. Both go to the positive terminal.

The electric brakes get their power thru the 7 pin. It may be the break-away switch though?

Yeah, I'm not sure but being red I would assume that it connects to the battery with the other red wire. Like I said I looked and don't see where else it was connected.

It's cut like the other two wires, I think it only makes sense that it ran to the battery too.

On a side note! Now that you have a new battery be sure to buy a chain/cable and a lock and secure the battery so that won't happen again!
My TT is kept and a storage yard and I feel much better knowing my batteries are secure so I don't have to experience what you have gone through! Trust me once they see the cable lock on your batteries they will move to the next trailer and spare you the grief!

My neighbor and I store in the same lot. A few years back his battery was stolen but mine was not (3 spaces away). A landscape co stored their equipment in the same lot and a former employee seemed to think he was owed something by just about everybody and took 25 batteries one night. I started removing the battery after that.

Generally the only wire that connects to the negative terminal would be the heavy black wire. All the others go to the positive. RV manufactures don't seem to conform to any type of standard wiring codes.

I always removed mine. Not only so it didn't grow legs, but so I could keep it on a charge maintainer in the garage.

Only problem I ever had doing this was if I decided to go pick up the rig from storage on the way home from work. If that decision was made after I left the house, I didn't have the battery with me.

Luckily storage isn't THAT far from home, so I towed it home without the battery once or twice...

I went and bought a new battery and terminals and am getting ready to hook it up.

Im assuming that I hook up the larger positive wire to the large post, and I attach that smaller wire to the smaller positive post with a connector, rather than twisting it together with the larger positive wire?

I connect the positive wires first, and then the negative? Correct?

You can make the 2 positive wire a single connection or do separate connection either way will work. It's not going to matter + or - you hook to the battery first.

Just don't touch both posts at the same time and you should be fine.

I usually connect positive first because there are typically more wires attached to that post. Typically the negative side only has one ground wire to the frame. If you only have one wire to worry about, this limits the "arcing" that happens when you make the connection and close the loop.

The lock on your batteries is a very good idea. Thieves often return for "new" batteries shortly after you buy them.

If the 2nd red wire goes to you tongue jack, it is easy to trace. Either way, both red wires should be +, black negative.

I fabricated a steel cable to secure my battery and propane tanks with padlocks.
I also secure my equalizer hitch bars with a padlock, and padlock the ball of the equalizer in the hitch. The bars hang from a short cable and a tarp hook attached to the tongue.
All locks are keyed alike. Anyone wants them, they will need to spend a little time and have a tool or two.
I park in a safe place, but hate to lose anything.
It also keeps the grease clean.

I believe that this wire should be connected directly to the Positive battery terminal so it's always powered on. This is used to activate the brakes through the break away switch if the trailer gets disconnected from the tow vehicle.
