I would never pay a PDI fee....MY dealer Keystone Mega RV Center charged absolutely nothing and everything was perfect on delivery day..Clean and no leaks. I have found a few things that were missed by both manufacture and dealer but were fixed in minutes. they are still human after all..PDI fees and Doc fees are just line items on a Bill of sale to make pure profit. I will never pay them.

You pay them weather there listed or not. It's an additional profit but you negotiate it all. And what ever price you pay it's still in the profit.

Glad to hear all was the way it should be, however the PDI is in the MSRP. Some dealers do add another fee on top of that.

No. My price was either the same or lower than the other 2 quotes I got and all the others were adding a PDI fee on the bill of sale as a line item on top of everything else.
My dealer added nothing.
I have no problem with them making money but to list it as an item on the bill of sale is crap IMO

I have a 2013 Jayco 221 and it has 5000 miles on it. Only two issues have been a false carbon monoxide alarm and the attachments that "bolt" the TV the brackets came loose from vibration. Very happy with it after 6 months.

In reference to the tires, it wouldn't surprise me at all if some unscrupulous dealer took the radial tires off the unit and put it on a different unit, then put the bias ply's from unit 2 onto unit 1. They probably assumed the original owner wasn't diligent enough to notice, and might have been right.
Like has been stated before, RV's are assembled by hand by a crew who is in a rush to meet production quotas. Minor mistakes are going to be made. The dealer should be catching those mistakes. They make pretty good money per sale and do very little work to get the sale. The least that a salesman could do is personally inspect a camper before the buyers arrive to pick it up and ensure that obvious things are either fixed or documented for the new owners.

Jim,
Finding out some of the TT's unknown history explains a lot...., sounds like you got a "like new" used TT!

Tires, and average use of a trailer
I simply can't imagine folks purchasing a trailer and only camping once or twice. We started with tents, each kid was in the tent before a year old, with the exception of the fourth. Went from tents to used pop-up, new pop-up, used trailer, and recently ordered a new trailer.
I know the tires on my current unit dry rotted after sitting while preparing for and going on a military deployment. Things seem to go down hill from lack of use sometimes. Hope you enjoy the new unit.

We have just returned from a weeks camping, and enjoyed the unit very much.
We feel that it will serve us well in the future.
We are pretty close to our Max Trailer weight for the 3.7 Ford, but it handled the load very well, and we averaged above 10mpg. while towing.

Jayco quality is defiantly on the down slide. Too many quality issues getting out of the factory. Get the little things fixed and enjoy.

Jim W - since I posted to this thread I discovered another problem and wondered if anyone had a similar problem. Since the TT had only 5000 miles on it I did not look at the tires until I happened to look down last week. One tire was almost slick and the other 3 were in great condition. There appears to be an axle problem and the dealer has ordered 2 new axles. Anyone else have this happen on the JayFeather 221?

Well there seems to be a fine line between whats "bad" and whats actually acceptable.
Working at an RV dealer, I can truthfully say. There are many people who throw me the "I SPENT (x amount) $$$ on this, and it should be and remain perfect forever" People must realize these things are sticks of wood (or aluminum) put together with staples (or rivets) and we bounce them up & down the highway at 60+ MPH. Try doing that with your house. It would crumble to the ground in the first 2 miles.
Now on the same note. Things like drawer catches, well I fix them everyday (even in brand new units). Axles are not usually bad, but often out of alignment. Radios are bad quite often, as are TV sets, ETC. Dealer should find these things before delivery (well maybe not a misaligned axle), but if they miss something, it should be fixed without question by the dealer at your request

You never checked your tires during your 5000 miles of travels??? Consider yourself very fortunate that you only had a bald tire.

I agree with most all of the above posts. We are new to the rv stuff and are having a hoot. My problem is that I don't see the same quality for the $60k I spent on my fifth wheel compared to the $60k I paid for my truck.
That being said I can't wait for the next trip.

Thanks for the measured perspective. I believe you make a good point about the RV industry. From my limited experience it seems R&D, testing 'mule' platforms and so on is non existent.
Considering the size of the industry a little surprising. I enjoy the Jayco and the camping, this is not sour grapes. Just MHO.

I personally think that if GM, FORD, CHRYSLER, TOYOTA, NISSAN and all the other auto manufacturers had owners forums such as this, the percentage of complaints for minor problems would be the same or higher.

Searching a few websites on the industry, I counted the number of manufacturers and came up with about 120. In 2013 a total of 290,000 units were sold. The now discontinued poorest selling US vehicle once sold a third that number.
The big 8 US manufacturers sold about 15 million vehicles.
I don't think the number of models made by each is imporant in concluding that those numbers are a major factor in the lack of quality in the RV industry as a whole. On average most don't make very many units.
As an aside, I found this interesting. A very recent NHTSA recall: "September 25: 29 Jayco fifth-wheel trailers from 2015, Recalled for incorrect cargo carrying capacity information on the label."
