Jayco / thor

So it’s been some years since Thor purchased JAYCO. What are everyone’s thoughts. Likes , dislikes. I just hope build quality is still good. I’m nervous buying our 2023 hope as good as our 2013 was.

As a previous owner of a Thor and a fairly new owner of a Jayco, I am active on both forums. Thor seems to have real serious issues with build quality right now. Tons of units arriving at dealers with multiple construction issues. I walked away from looking at 2023 Thors to the Jayco dealer. I feel Jayco is light years ahead of Thor in their quality of construction/assembly processes and they have a much more user friendly design.

Took delivery of a 22 Jayco early December. I have owned Jayco's since my pop-up in 88, then several 5th wheels since 2000. I don't believe this 22 has any more issues with factory quality than any of the others. I understand that Jayco is implentmenting factory level PDI/quality control for all units before they are shipped to the dealer in an effort to catch these things before they even get out of the factory. The only 'quality' issues I have had are things that should have been caught at the dealer... I have NO trouble recommending Jayco to anyone.

I am only on my 2nd Jayco but my 7th since the late 80's. I recently traded my 2016 Jayco 28BHBE which was flawless for a 2022 33RBTS which is very close to flawless. There were a few little things on the 22 that needed some attention but nothing remotely close to some of the horror stories posted here and elsewhere. I have always found Jayco to be responsive to questions and requests for information. I have never had to file a warranty claim on either Jayco but did fix several small issues that would likely have been covered.

As for dealers I have had 2 not so pleasant buying experiences with both Jayco dealers but have had some issues and concerns with the other brands we have owned as well.

As I have said before I am brand loyal to a fault sometimes but I have no issues recommending Jayco to friends and family and do so regularly.

I've been "slammed" when saying this before. The Bontragers and Bob Tiffin both made the same comment when selling out to THOR. The reason they did agree was they would continue to operate as an independent company. The Bontragers still run JAYCO and the Tiffin's still run TIFFIN. THOR Industries even states that.

No different than GM having Chev, Buick, Pontiac, Cadillac, Oldsmobile, Saturn, GMC and their partnership with Isuzu and Suzuki during their heyday. They all competed against each other and had their own separate issues.

This is from the news article after the JAYCO buyout:

Derald Bontrager, President and CEO of Jayco stated, "The core values that are synonymous with Jayco and its brands shape the way we run our business, and these values will remain and guide us as we look to the future. One of the things we found most attractive about Thor was their decentralized business structure, which allows their subsidiaries to continue operating independently. Most importantly, within this structure, our current leadership team will continue to manage Jayco, just as we have been running it since our founding. We will continue with the same focus our father had on serving our dealers and consumers better than anyone else in the industry."

Derald Bontrager is still CEO and Ken Walters, who use to be VP in sales and development at JAYCO is President. And I don't own any THOR stock...

We shopped for a year pre-covid and got in just before the RV panic buying, deciding on the White Hawk bumper pull. We had 23 years with our extreme-high-quality Holiday Rambler Alumiscape and so we had been spoiled, The White Hawk is equal in build and has many great 2023 features. I look forward to keeping the electronics alive; no reports of gauges, bluetooth, or controls being zapped by lightning or poor site power, glad for that.
