keeping a exit window open

I have a window that is both a exit window and a ventilation window. it props open with it's own latch arm that is very sensitive to being bumped and closing causing the arm to release the window and close. I saw a modification a long time ago that has a "pin" drilled into the arm to keep the window arm from closing, but I can't seem to find it or anything that helps with keeping that window arm from easily disengaging and closing. Thanks for any advice

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, a bump will close it. But, sorry, I don't recall seeing anything about drilling the arm for a pin. Maybe someone else here has.

Keep in mind that any modification should not prevent the window from opening fully... it's an emergency exit, after all.

I always thought a simple rubber or foam wedge pressed into the gap above the plastic handle would keep it open and seal it from bugs, but never got around to making any.

I don’t recall a mod for this, but I’d love to take the metal slide bar off, place some kind of secure, simple bolt system, and use a chopstick to keep it open when necessary. This window design is awful. Just had warranty work to replace the slider bar as it broke from its attachment point to the window frame.

Maybe a simple weight could hang on the red section to hold it down when the window was open? a spring clip that would attach to the arm to push/hold it down in the slot? has to be a solution...

I don't have a photo because I sold the trailer but drilling a small hole is a simple solution. Just open the window and drill a hole through the arm and the window frame. I put in a small cotter pin and attached a string through the pin head and tied it to the window so I could easily remove the pin in an emergency.

Yes it truly is awful.. Ours broke a week after warranty done. It was not a big deal to replace it but does require a rivet gun and eleven dollars.. Yes 11 dollars for a new part. You would think with such a used item they would install something more substantial

We were enroute and having the window flapping in the wind while on the road was not going to be a good idea.

Open the window, put a stick between it and the trim. In fact you can pull the red handle out and open the window a lot more.

I use a little wedge made from ice cream sticks (double) works like charm.

I don't like that window. I had to file a notch in the red handle so it would come out of the hold down. My wife and I will never use it as an exit. I've toyed with the idea of replacing it with a matching sliding window. I'm sure that would be an expensive fix. I know it's an emergency exit but really? We have a 195rb and I don't believe it is necessary.
