Rain water will migrate in from both ends of the awning, even though you rolled it up dry. Especially if the rain is wind-driven.

Some have cut a 2 liter bottle to make a cap for each end and they say it helps. I never really worried about it over a 40+ years.

X2. Mine is always wet when I open it.

If you store it at your house, open it up now and again to allow it to dry.

Same here, it’s always wet. I open it on dry days and in spring and fall I open it and mop it down with a weak bleach solution. I try to let it dry but just roll it back up again. It’s still bright white after 3 years.

My solution was to purchase vinyl gutters from Home Depot...enough to be longer than the length of the awning. For my trailer, it was three at about 5.00 each if I recall. A couple of the gutter connectors and my saw to adjust the extra length to about 6 inches beyond each end. Turned upside down with the back of the gutter inserted into the roof gutter, clips holding the sections together. A slight push downward to settle the assembly over the awning and Voila. I admit it's all held down with the cover so the winter winds don't flip it off the trailer, but it's been working now through two trailers.

The freezing of winter will do more damage to an awning then a little water. Having had awnings since the 70's I don't worry about them when in storage. When you replace it at some future date you can get them with an aluminun first roll next to the trailer.
