knats all over top bunk?? 28bhbe

We are out in DC for our 4th trip in our new 28bhbe the top bunk has a ton of knats coming in somewhere. We see tons along the ceiling on the seam by the outer wall. We can not figure out where they are getting in at. We had a huge storm last night and no water leaks into the camper. Any thoughts how they are getting in and how I fix it. I now have a kid refusing to sleep up there.

I would have a pro look at it. Maybe shine some light. Can the seam be caulked? That's most likely where they're coming in.

Check the blankets, mattress, etc??

All sheets and blankets came from the dryer at home into the camper. Hubby thinks they found a gap under the camper and are coming up in the wall and coming out a small gap he sees by the ceiling and outer wall. He wants to caulk the whole inside seam by the ceiling. Any reason that would not be a good idea?

It's what I'd do..for sure! I've caulked areas in my TT and haven't experienced any problems from doing it.

They could just be collecting there because its the warmest spot in the trailer with the least amount of airflow. Also, the bottom and sides of that bunk area are open to the storage area below. I would start by taking off the inspection panels and looking into the walls around the bunk area, and flip up the bottom bunk and closely inspect the storage area below. Also, closely inspect those windows in the bunks for any leaks; they may not be letting in water, but the bugs can still get in.

Edit: Do your little ones have a habit of taking food to bed with them? I might start by stripping the bunks down to the ply wood and inspecting for whatever the critters might be after.

No food in the bed. Bugs are a large flying knat type bug. Found a ton on the trim by the back where the ceiling meets the wall. None in the bottom bunk or garage. Killed them all and 30 minutes later there were a couple dozen more. Sprayed bug spray in the gap before we left for the city. We will see what it looks like when we get back. They are no where else in the camper other than that top bunk. It is odd. We are near a home Depot and can get caulk. Just didn't know what that might do to our warrantee.

very possible that it could have been a nest in the material when it was built and now the warmer weather is bringing them out

Ok so we are back and no new knats. Hubby sprayed the trim where he thought they were coming in before we left. So I think we will hope it was a nest in there from during construction or something but caulk that whole area just in case.
