leave stabilizing jacks down?

so, I read in the manual not to leave the stabilizing jacks down during storage. My camper lives on 4 acres, and though I am not traveling in it now, I do spend time in it off and on throughout the year. does it hurt anything if I leave the jacks down year round?

I also left my jacks down all year in my driveway. It was a Man Cave when not camping. I see no reason why not. Perhaps mice?

Not as long as you do not lose tire inflation which might put too much weight on the stabilizers if tires went flat.

My only concern with leaving them down is the "walk" or "shift" that would cause any of them to "adjust" where the TT is now only sitting on two or three of them. When I camp I have found that I have to tighten them every few days or they continue to rise until they are not supporting that corner of the TT.

I wouldn't leave them down. The other post is correct if tires go flat to much stress. Keep in mind at the t.v. dealers they tend to leave them up for long periods

I don't on mine. It's an avenue for mice to gain easier access. Then when I go to get it it's less work.

I leave ours down in the driveway during the summer since I’m in and out of the trailer all the time, but they stay up when it’s in winter storage at the yard.

On my last trailer, Skyline Koala 21CS, I would leave the stabilizer jacks down. I did it because with just wheels and tongue jack, it tended to wiggle a lot.

However, I've found that my current trailer, Jayco Jay Flight 23RB, seems to be much more stable than my previous one. I can walk around in it and it doesn't wiggle much. Not sure why the 23RB is that much more stable than the old 21CS. Because of this inherent stability, I do not put the stabilizer jacks down now.

thank you all again! Seems like more reasons to keep them up than leave down, unless I am in it. and seriously, it takes 5 min to put them down. I can handle that! ha!

They are hydraulic cylinders , could blow the seals making them leak.

What damage can occur if you loose tire air pressure & the jack takes the brunt of the weight?

Your analysis makes no sense. The general consensus among those that answered you is just the opposite.

Since I didn't answer yet I will now.....

Our RV is permanently set up year round. My jacks are down 100%. When we go camping, we open the back door, turn on the gas and electric and have fun. A few times a year I crank the jacks up and down to adjust perfectly, but more often than not no adjustment is necessary.

With one exception....after a hard freezing winter, after the thaw, I may need to make a minor adjustment after the whole rig comes back down.

Easy, peasy, no problem, no worries.

OTOH, if it makes you happy to play with them every weekend, go for it.....no problem one way or the other.

I leave mine on the jacks all winter. I do build cribbing under both sides on the axle so if my tires go flat or dig in they will take the weight.

The stabilizers will keep the RV from rocking in the wind and working the frame.

Tires go flat, jacks get damaged. Jacks down provide a perfect ladder for pesky rodents to get into your trailer and destroy everything. Leave them up when not camping.
