We have a 34RSBS and keep it plugged in to a 20 amp line. Did not see the need in going to 30 amp since it's just to keep the battery charged. I can also run the refrigerator to get ready for a trip.

I know I should read the manual but do the newer models have built in battery chargers that charge the batteries when plugged in?

I wired in a shut off switch to the CO monitor. That way when we are not using the trailer, we can turn it off. When losding the trailer, we turn it back on.

Camping World asked me if I leave it plugged in year round and I told them yes I do. They told me if you don't during the winter? Remove it and put it in the garage. Mine is plugged in year round. Actually sometimes if we get drop in guests? They stay in the RV. Stays toasty.

Yes, the converter contains a multi-stage smart charger that keeps the battery(s) charged, similar to a battery maintainer.

I'm also new to RV'ing and have had mine pluged into power since I bought it mid August. Since I plan to use it during the winter I'm keeping a heater in it and not winterizing it. I have a nice 3 sided RV carport that I'm keeping it in. It was 28 last night and it was 65 inside my RV this morning when I checked it.

For those who plug in year round, do you live in snowy area during winter? was debating keeping trailer plugged in during winter (northeast) versus disconnecting batteries and putting on a trickle charger. Are there advantages of one versus the other?

Only problem would be that in very cold weather if the power went out or fuse blew or the batteries otherwise went without power for a few days they could freeze.

Also, could be just to cold to goout and check the water inside the batteries.

Lead acid batteries like to be at 50* or warmer, when charging. If it's colder, the battery charger will bring the battery temp up to a point where it'll actually begin the charging phase. That can take a while to accomplish, depending on how cold the battery is. That's why we bring them inside for the cold NY winters.

We disconnect the batteries when our trailers are in storage. If they are charged and disconnected they will not freeze. You can also leave the batteries disconnected and keep the trailer plugged in.

We live in South West Ontario Canada where it can get a little chilli in the winter. We leave ours plugged in as well. Check the battery level now & again. As an added bonus we keep ultrasonic rodent deterrent generators running all year too. Along with sealing up all openings & using BOUNCE sheets we haven't had an issue.
