LED awning lights are way too bright...(mod)...

I was online looking for a solution and came across this tape. I decided to buy some Amber Polyimide Tape, 500° High Temperature, 1/4 x 36 Yd., 2.5 Mil. It only cost me $5.50 online and it has solved the problem of excessive bugs in and around my door at night due to the BRIGHT LED's under my awning....This was the cheapest mod so far and it turned out perfect.

Absolutely - I went out and measured first. This stuff is sticky. I ended up putting a little dab of clear silicone adhesive on the ends for good measure....

Great idea!! I was trying to come up with an idea this past weekend as I was sitting there surrounded by bugs with the campsite glowing like a beacon in the night.

These awning LED strips are ridiculously bright and when I noticed ours lighting up our site and the neighbors camper decided to swamp them out with dimmable color which is much better. I wonder if they make this tape in blue? That would be nice for my front lights which are also bright.

I like this idea. My lights are on the roller end of the awning, and they are just too darned bright.

It comes in a 36 yard roll...I have only used one layer so far. You could easily add another layer or two to adjust the brightness....

How much did the one layer cut the lift level down? A fair amount so it's tolerable to have the awning light on now?

TY!

2nd and 3rd layers added today...

I went ahead and put a 2nd and 3rd layer on this morning. Took me a whopping 5 minutes.... I will see if this is enough tonight. I think it will lower the brightness just enough though. The picture below is the 2nd layer....

This in combo with a dimmer would be perfect for me. Sometimes the brightness has been helpful. But the colour has always been horrible for attracting bugs.

How does the dimmer get hooked up? Is the wiring in the awning arm?

The link Fire Instructor posted discusses the dimmer mod.
There a a couple links in there to cheap dimmers
I went with the dimmer with the adjustable knob and put it in my storage so I can easily reach it when I'm outside.
I didn't use the remote dimmer because I would lose the remote.

Be aware you have to have both the positive and negative wires directly from the LED strip for these dimmers to work. So you need to find both wires.

This is the remote dimmer
https://www.amazon.com/Lerway-Contro...ilpage_o01_s00

This is the manual dimmer I used

https://www.amazon.com/Triangle-Bulb...rds=Led+dimmer

Even with the LED strip dimmed those bugs are still horrible!!

we love how the lights are brighter than other brands of rvs. I figure it means Jayco puts a more expensive light on.

Great explanations everyone ! But I believe putting a dimmer switch on might be beyond my technological means. I might have to look at that tape
