Cool Let's talk toilets! (may be TMI, so use caution)

So, third outing in our new '13 Starcraft 266RKS (which we still consider the perfect "couple's trailer"). Sierra foothills, California Gold country, hot with a breeze, NorCal Starcraft club campout, so all near perfect.

However, a certain reality of the toilet in the trailer has become apparent and I am wondering if anyone else has noticed this: There is a rather limited amount of room in the toilet between one's physical presence and the newly risen level of material recently deposited in the toilet bowel. The limited amount of room being the area one has to perform certain required manual activities.

In other words, there are clearance problems.

Not only with my size XL+ paw (which I had more or less excused as a result) but with my wife's far more delicate hand, as she pointed out to me in a post campout chat. "The toilet is kinda wierd", she said, and then went on to elaborate. I nodded, wondering if I needed to start measuring clearance room in candidate replacement toilets...

So, has anyone else noticed this? What have you done as a result? Is there a reasonable way to raise the seat assembly? Did you replace the toilet? Is the best solution simply to "be careful"? I don’t think this will seriously impair matrimonial bliss (we’ve been at it for nearly 32 years!), but I would like to make it a problem solved rather than a problem lived with.

Thanks!

I'm new to RV living with full accommodations. I also noticed having a few technical difficulties that I first did not understand. It would appear as thought a clearance issue was the culprit for myself making unwanted contact to what was way down below. To make matters worse, I find I often need a little extra water in the bowl for a clean get away after I do the deed. I guess practice will make perfect. I know this is another topic all together, but RV TP leaves a bit to be desired.

We don't do the "deed" in the camper... Mostly because i don't want to deal with draining it. Most every cg we go to has a bath house with flush toilets in the summer and at minimum a port-o-potty in the off season. Really we only use the toilet at night if needing to "drain the main vain"...
By looking at your sig, is this the only camper you have had this problem with? Might look at what the others had that this one doesnt.

Yes...this is the first unit we've had since 1996 with this particular problem. Even out first trailer, a Starcraft tent trailer with a cassette toilet had more bowl clearance! I need to look at the docs for our current trailer and see which toilet we have now and then see what the manufacturer says, if anything, about this parameter.

Well Mark, if all it takes is practice, we just need to go camping more, and that is never a bad thing!

I have the problem also. Must be a " man" thing. I have determined what beginning water level I need for starters. Then there is the oft used "courtesy flush " with the left foot.

Can you do a dual flush -- Do your thing, flush the solids, then do the paperwork, and then flush the paper?

Also, I would recommend staying away from Chipolte unless there is a shower house near by, I find this aggravates the situation.

Well we have a 248RBS, which I think is the perfect couples trailer. When ever the grandson was with us we had pee all over. Wide said bowl wasn't deep enough. We now have a Dometic 310 china bowl . It is deeper. We don't do the deed in the camper, only number one.

Update:

So, it looks like we have a Thetford Aqua-Magic Style II toilet. China bowl in a plastic base and housing, side foot pedal.

Thetford indicates that the seat and lid is residental style, so maybe a taller/thicker commercial seat will do the trick. I've asked via Email.

I tried to put a residential style self closer seat on mine and it did not fit.
Personally I prefer a taller toilet but my wife prefers the shorter.
You know the rest of that story!

Flush more often. Problem solved, and the more water in the black tank, the better!

Update Duo...

In an email reply early this morning, Thetford says that some "residential round" toilet seats may fit, so I am going to give that a try.

Word to the wise.."Wash your hands, you know where they've been!"

Honestly, I have feared this since we went on our first outing in our new trailer, that toilet looks mighty shallow, but those fears have not manifested... yet. If I ever DO make contact with the "product", I'll have to revisit this thread to see how it turned out for the OP! Or I'll use the "double flush" method which I have to admit, I have employed before with great success.

Duly noted on the Chipotle, I'll steer clear! LOL!

Hmm, I will have to rethink this. I thought the deed meant something else, also the word Product does not seem to to it justice. LOL

Let me know what type of seat you find that will fit the Thetford. I had no luck.

I thought all Jayco travel trailers had the tall porcelain bowl? That is what I have in mine.
