Low flow

Has anyone upgraded their water pump? My flow is really slow with the Surflo pump that came with my TT

I had a low flow problem with my MH and found kinked tubing under the bed. Original installation included too much tubing. Check around your water pump for any kinks in the visible tubing.

The flow from these pumps is very adequate.

Look for:
- Low battery
- Poor electrical connections
- Continuity through the switches
- Clogged aerators
- Clogged filter (intake side of the pump)
- Kinked hoses
- Open antifreeze intake
- Closed valve to the FW tank (used with the antifreeze valve)

Put the DVM on the leads to the motor when it is running to see if you have wiring/switch issues.

The good money on the intake screen. Followed by a kinked hose in a nearly inaccessible location that requires 2 flashlights, an inspection mirror, 3.5 assistants and a pitcherfull of blind luck to find.

A while back the pump would cycle with nothing on and no leaks. I messed with the little Allen screw. The cycling stopped but I'm not sure if that caused low flow. Any ideas?

[QUOTE=tawoo;322776 ....I messed with the little Allen screw....[/QUOTE]

<<cringe>>

I haven't had the new design pumps apart yet. But I read the manual. There are 2 settings. 1 is the pressure cycling switch and the other controls the bypass preload.

According to the documentation, "Don't mess with them unless you know what you are doing."

When you set the bypass preload too low, the pump won't shut off
You may have the preload too high and the pump is working too hard?

You may have set the pressure switch too low and the pump isn't developing enough pressure to give good flow.

But, since the problem seems to have happened well after you abused your poor, defenseless pump, I'm still pressing for disassemble the intake filter and clean it in the house.

It is. Next we are going to prescribe tamsulosin. We'll see if that has the desired effect.

No filter that I see and no, it was not a "poor defenseless pump" It is a pump that was straight from hell when coming on in the middle of the night for no reason.

There is always a reason for something to happen. Even if that reason is the damned thing itself is faulty.

I've noticed the pump will run in short bursts:
  • About a minute after we stop using hot water.
  • Several time over 3 hours after the water heater is turned off.
As the water cools off in the lines or tank it contracts.

** Search some more for the filter or a kinked line. ** Get in where the pump is located with some really good light.

I had the same issue and what made the difference in my Jayco was the pressure reducer I was using. Get rid of the cheap plastic ones and buy a brass one to replace it. Now my water pressure is the best it's ever been.
