Lower trailer heigth

I love my 20MRB but like all new trailers, it's so bloody high off the ground! Compared to my old '75 Prowler....seems like a lot of extra wind resistance above AND below. Certainly way more ground clearance than I would ever need! Have any of you ever changed your springs from overslung the axles to underslung? If so, did you have any trouble with wheel well clearance then?

Most often people are asking if they can lift their trailer, always looking for even more clearance, I believe you will be rubbing your tires I'd you try to lower your trailer on your axles

I guess it's a personal preference thing I think the newer trailers look ungainly and unstable so high off the ground! And like a NASCAR, even my 4WD F150 pickup has an airdam under the front bumper to help keep turbulent and restrictive airflow from passing under the vehicle. As far as dragging the ground on sharp inclines, etc, my old Prowler was longer from the axle to the rear bumper, and although it was at least 6" lower, I never had a serious problem with that. My dad bought a new 24' Road Ranger in '88 and he underslung it first thing after he got it. He didn't have any clearance problems, but as he and the trailer are both gone now, I don't know if he modified his wheel wells or not! It's not too big a job...I may just have to try it and go find a bumpy road to see if it's a problem!😃

Wheel well clearance will be your only issue. A call to Jayco engineering might be in order.

I took advice and contacted Jayco Technical. Here is their response:

Good morning and thank you for contacting Jayco Customer Service,

Jayco does not recommend this to be done on any Jayco product. When changing the axles/springs from over-slung to under-slung, you are moving them the distance of the axle diameter. By doing this, it would result in an inadequate space for clearance and could pose many possible threats. I hope this information is helpful. I would imagine lowering any trailer would increase the likelihood of grounding the front or rear of the trailer when encountering uneven ground like a steep approach at home or at a gas station. The longer the trailer the greater the distance from ground to frame. My WH is 23" to the bottom of the frame, but the trailer is 37' bumper to hitch. It's a long way from the axles to the bumper! So even if you had clearance from the top of the wheels to whatever part of the trailer was above the wheel, you might have an issue on steep approaches. Not withstanding if you hit a big bump and the wheels scrubbed the underside of your trailer, I can only imagine what would happen!!
