Lug nut caps

New to site - I tried to search but having some difficulty finding info -
I have a 2012 whitehawk trailer - the cap covers are very difficult to remove to expose the lug nuts
- I thought there was a tool to help with this.
Recently had a tire repair and shop told me the caps were the lug nuts and they used the air gun on those and torqued. I know there are caps and they remove. Please verify and if there is a tool and Amazon that will help pull these off. Thx

Some have them, others don't. I have not seen a tool. I do know that if you put a wrench on them, they will likely be destroyed.

My current rig with chrome lug nuts do not have them.

Caps aren't made to be hit with an impact socket. Most half inch air impacts are running in reverse at 400 ft lbs or more. Hand wrench remove only. eTrailer has a lug nut torque chart but most are run on at 90 to 120 lbs. In a shop with tech's that actually have been trained, they run them on with an air gun to about ten to 15 lbs less than they are spec'd and then hand tightened with a torque wrench to spec. Air guns have a pressure diverter that looks like a small dial knob that allows the operator to reduce the impact torque, but a lazy tech who ignores their training won't touch it. I never have allowed any tire guy to use torque sticks either....they can be over driven.

We might need a photo of yours because to my knowledge the hubcap, lug covers are not air tool removable and I have no idea what the tire repair would be torquing on them.

This is the tool that I use to get the covers off and on. Works great.

The caps on my 2012, are not removable. When we had the tires replaced, Discount Tires damaged a few. They replaced them, and gave me a big bag for the future. Not a perfect match. But no one will notice as I replaced all on one hub.

Here in Canada we don’t get links to Amazon in the US when searching on Google. Should have tried there 🤷*♂️

Two piece lug nuts

Two piece lug nuts are garbage. Either they rust under the cover and expand or the service shop damage them with air guns. Replace with one piece, stainless 21mm or same as tow vehicle. You will be glad on the side of the road with a flat. Jayce shouldn’t use two piece nuts.

I blamed Discount Tire for a long time for damaging the lug nuts on my truck. I had to file the covers just to get the socket on. I had them all set so the socket slipped on easily.

But 6 months later, most of them had swollen, so I knew it wasn't DTs fault. I realized that corrosion was causing the covers to expand. I ordered solid lug nuts from Amazon and replaced the crappy 2 piece nuts. Been good ever since.
