Made it home with new TT

Picked up our 2014 24FBS yesterday but couldn't get the hitch off the ball. Tried again today and had to straighten out the TV as it was on a curb at an angle. Then had to slide out of the receiver cause ball still wouldn't release. Guess being sick 3 days prior didn't help any. DW was very patient with me. Now it's in the driveway and getting stocked up for the first trip this spring. Hope the weather gets better soon. Gettin real antsy to try it out!
BTW, drove an hour in a strong side wind at 60 and with the equal-i-zer WDH and the Ford F150 anti-sway, and I had a straight ride home.
Now it's time to start on all those mods you guys are talking about. Any recommendations on what should be first??

If your hitch is like mine, the top lever that is traditionally lifted up to release the ball needs to be lifted THEN SLID BACK. Myself and a few other members here had the same problem the first time we tried to unhook our trailer.

Congrats and enjoy the new TT

Same here! Had the TV wheels darned near off the ground a couple of times before I figured it out. You'll get the hang of it in no time.

Yup had the same problem when I tried to release mine, called the dealership and felt like I didn't know a thing when they told me what to do

OH MAN....DUH! What an easy fix. Thanks so much for the instruction. Wish the CW guy at the PDI had bothered to tell me that little tidbit.

Congrats on the new rig!

My first mod was a mattress topper, and I highly recommend that to anyone. Virtually anything is easier to overcome if you've had a good night's sleep!

Congratulations on the new TT!! One of our first mods was to replace the mattress. We did it with a Tempur-pedic, but anything the DW signs off on is the right thing to do.

Also, be sure to grease your hitch ball. I towed mine dry the first couple times and the lever started getting stuck. I greased the ball and the problem went away immediately.

one thing i would do is take the bar that you use to attach the weight distribution bars and give the latch a tap while holding it up to get it to release but that was only sometimes when there was pressure on it somehow, or put the wheel chocks under the tires and put the truck in drive and let it idle forward it will take the pressure off the latch and make it easier to slide back

A decent sewer hose with a clear ABS hydroflush fitting. Can't have too much flushi-out capability. After that, I'm with the dump-the-cheapo-mattress crowd. We went with an adjustable air mattress with dual controls, although we both like max firmness.
As for the coupler problem, on occasion we've needed to move the TV forwards or backwards a half a tad. (1 tad = .5 inch.) If your camper didn't come with an electric tongue jack, I'd say that's in a tie with the mattress for an early mod, but that might be an age-related thing!

We went with a 5 1/2 inch topper from kohls, they always have these things on sale and 30% coupons come out frequently

IMHO a topper works best on a good mattress that lacks cushioning between you and the springs. But if the support just isn't there to begin with, the topper's effectiveness is reduced. And since they can run into the hundreds, the money might better be spent on a good mattress. Here's what we put in our guest bedroom in our home. It is a full queen which may or may not work in a camper and it is heavy which can be a factor for some campers, but it gives you something to consider if you do want to upgrade the stock bedding.

Ikea 4.75" queen foam mattress. Best money we ever spent on the travel trailer.

Sams has one on sale 79. for 4" memory foam. I changed out the lights to led, added a second battery and a battery switch.
