Maintenance: Jayco dealer or local RV dealer

How important is it to have any service done at a Jayco dealer (40 miles away) or can I have a local RV dealer do the work?

(8 year old Jayco Featherlite in very good condition with no known problems)

Thanks.

What kind of Maintenance?

Inspections/caulking I do myself.

Wheels, Brakes, Bearing I have done at the local tire shop.

I can't think any maintenance items that would require going to the Jayco Dealer vs another Dealer if you can't do it yourself. The TT is 8 years old so there is no warranty involved.

Since ypou are way outside the warranty period I recommend the local RV guy. I also use a local RV guy for jobs I do not want to tackle myself.

Well I will give you my take on this question. I had a local RV dealer that stopped selling RVs but stayed open to do service and sell RV supplies. The last RV I bought (non-Jayco) that I took back to the selling dealer for bearing service they damaged five lug nuts when they did the service. From now on when I need routine service that I can't do I am going to take it to the local guy, even if under warranty, for the work. I will take it back to the selling dealer for warranty items but never again for routine maintenance. Just document that the service was performed. YMMV

Just because it is a dealers shop doesn't necessarily mean quality work. Take it to someone you can trust. Most things in a trailer are generic and are used in most other brands also.

Amen. It has to be a structural problem for a warranty repair at the selling dealer.
