Medicine Cabinet

We purchased a 2016 Jay Flight, 27’ Trailer. Our question is about a hanging cabinet for toothpaste, etc. can we do that easily, or are the walls too thin? We would like to replace the mirror above the sink with one.
Any advice would be appreciated

Go to the search option at the top of the screen and type in medicine cabinet then click on posts. You will find a number of posts by forum members there. Click on the italicized words and medicine cabinet will show up in red. Maybe some ideas will come out or you can send a PM to the poster to see how they anchored their cabinet.

Post 399-400 on my mod thread.

https://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f...-30052-40.html

Built this medicine cabinet for my father in laws jayflight due to just a mirror there originally. Not hard to find studs for securing, just make sure you have screws the right length for securing.

Walls are roughly 2” thick. Plan accordingly depending on how your cabinet or shelf mounts. I think I used 1-3/4” screws as my mount stripping in the cabinet was 3/4”. May have used 2” which still would’ve put me 3/4” from the outside but can’t remember.

BigJohnD, thank you. I’ll check it out. I was so worried it would hurt the walls when we traveled. Thank you.

BigJohnD, was there a mirror there originally? If so, how did you take it off without harming the wall?

Yes, just a mirror. I tried to pry it loose very carefully, but ended up shattering the mirror. It was mounted with double sided tape on all 4 sides. I used a putty knife and tried to work it loose, eventually cracking the mirror and pulling it off in pieces. Once finally off, I just scraped away remaining tape / glue that I could and mounted cabinet, which covered it all anyway. It got messy, but was worth it for him. The wall was never damaged, but there was a little tape residue left over on the wall.

Built it. I build everything whether it’s steel or wood or anything else. If you ever have a LOT of time, read through my mod thread. I have a big shop with wood working area, welding / fab shop etc. Might give you a few ideas. Feel free to PM if any questions.

I have heard and read of others who found just the right pre-built cabinet. From what I read many of the glued on mirrors are not as difficult to remove as BigJohnDs, like falling off on their own!

I had hoped mirror removal would’ve been easier with that one as I had planned on cutting that mirror to insert in the door. No such luck.

You can definitely find a prefab medicine cabinet to fit. I guess the whole deal with this one being custom was he wanted it this tall, this wide, had to be deep enough to fit this or that etc etc. plus it was a trade deal.

I, like BigJohn, created my own cabinet as the one in my trailer was dinky! Unlike BigJohn I don't have all the wood working tools he has but got it done with a compound miter saw and a table saw. Found some stain that was a very close match and I was off to the races. I also reached out to Jayco and got detail on the back wall of my trailer, it is a rear bath model, shows where the "studs" are located. The walls on my trailer are 1" thick and the mount strip on mine are 1/2" so I used 1 1/4 screws with a pan style head.
