I have been pulling the same trailer 23MRB for two years with my F150 FX4 3.5 ecoboost and have had no problems with the trailer in flat Texas or in the Colorado rookies going across the mountains. I run a 12000 lb sway control hitch system. The truck has standard wheels and tires so no extra width from stock. I'll get some movement from semis if I ride too far left in the lane, but moving over a little clears up the movement. My truck is rated to pull 10,400 with the tow package and 3.55 gears.

I started with a TT and a half ton Chevy towing over the mountains of Pennsylvania. After a year of knuckle driving I upgraded to a 2500hd diesel. Year later went from TT to 5th wheel and never looked back after a dozen years. Can’t beat the tow. No problems went from NY to Disney and back Myrtle beach many years no issues

You will find towing far more relaxing with a 3/4 or 1 ton. Diesel is even better. If you choose to go diesel, get a 1 ton. That motor is pretty heavy and eats up a lot payload on a 3/4 ton.

Asking for personal clarity...When yall speak of 3/4 ton to 1 ton, are yall referring to f-250 to a f-350 SRW or would a 1 ton be a dually?
Thanks

It was just this reason I bought a Titan XD with the Cummins diesel. I didn’t want/need a 1 ton nor did I want the rough ride of today’s 3/4 ton trucks. The XD is actually a 3/4 ton 2b class truck that tows our Jayco HT (9500 lbs) with ease. No half ton, regardless of manufactures claims, should be towing 10k+ lbs imo. That’s just my experience but yes, if you don’t like to white knuckle it, a 3/4 ton truck will certainly be more safe.

We’re in the process of moving from a F150 to an F250 for the reasons you mentioned. Our current TV is just struggling too much with our new camper.

But we are going with a gasser instead of a diesel. Just my opinion, but we don’t use the truck enough to justify the higher priced (and more $ to maintain) diesel.

Yes......, based on some replies referencing slight price difference, descriptions..., and OP's base comparison TV is a 1/2 ton. OP did mention possible TT upgrade.

This is how we did it. Should have gone big the first time and saved $$$$

Go Big or go home

I went from Ford 250the a Dodge Ram3500 with 6.7 Diesel. just bought a 377 RLBH 2019, 5th wheel. I could not really tell the trailer was back there. had to watch speed it keep creeping up to 80 MPH. going to take trailer out for a shakedown run this weekend.

We also pull a 23MRB (2017). We had a Chevy Express 1500 (with a modified rear end) and just traded up to a 2500. We always had the feeling that we really were stressing the 1500. The difference is significant enough that given the choice I would recommend going to the 2500. The 1500 pulled up most grades but had issues if we had to slow on a hill and then speed up to get around a truck etc. The 2500 has not had the issue. In addition, the tow mode on the 2500 (with the 6 speed transition) easily handles anything up to an 8% grade.

Weird your having issues with your combination. Are you using a wdh? My 16 Silverado 5.3 and 2018 whitehawk 29bh is just perfect, wouldn't want anything heavier or longer tho.

When I bought my Jay Flight 29rks I pulled it home about 50 miles with my 2010 GMC 1500. This truck has 3.08 gears and I soon found out the trailer is really to much for the truck. I purchased a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD regular cab, 6.0 gas engine with the 4.10 gears. Hardly know the trailer is behind the truck except for the gas gage. The best I have got so far not pulling the trailer is around 17 mpg. Pulling the trailer runs around 12 mpg I run around 60 pulling the trailer. I kept my 2010 to pull my 2018 Casita Spirit Delux. It handles the Casita very well.

I really like my 2015 Chevy 2500HD 6.0 gasser also. GM set the model up to actually do work instead of just being a car on steroids like many of the 1/2 tons. And the L96 6.0 is darn near bullet proof.

Will be interesting to see how the new 6.6L gasser does in the 2020 GM 2500/3500 pickup trucks. Should really eat into the Dmax sales. If it has the same reliability of the 6.0, man, that will be a really good setup.
