Question Mud Dauber and "other screens."

Just purchased my trailer and am setting it up. The Dealer Service Rep suggested that I install a screen over the water heater panel, stove outlet etc. I looked at the retail versions but while measuring I wonder why no one just cuts screen, like screen on a screen door, and fastens it to the inside of these panels. On the hot water panel I could use high heat epoxy or caulking and fasten it to the inside. Am I missing something?

We did that with our first RV and then also bought the common mud dauber screens available anywhere online and just keep moving them along between RVs.

That's what we call MODS. If you are handy and like to do it yourself, yes you can get some satisfaction and save some $$$ by coming up with solutions that are not solved in a camping store.

The water heater and fridge vents can be solved by just hot gluing the screen on the inside of the cover. The heater vent can also be done but many just purchase the heat proof screen.

Be careful with the tighter weave of house screens. A little dust buildup and you can be restricting air flow...

This is one of the first things I did on our TT. I still had an issue with one getting in around the roof vent. That stuff they build with is so strong and stains everything. Stay vigilant

Thank you, I was wondering what size screen I should use. Also, heat will be an issue for the waer heater vent.

Thanks for the answer. I am so new I didn't even think about the roof vent. Will have to climb up there to look at the possible issues.

I just purchased Camco screens for the water heater and furnace vents.

But for the Norcold refrigerator vent doors nobody seems to make them for our style, which each have six 17" long slots. Even if they did make them.....I'm not paying $80+ for some little slats of screen, so I'm off to Lowe's to find some screen that I can cover the entire inside of the vent doors with in one piece.

Now that's my type of solution. I did see some screens while searching but haven't measure my opening yet. Still filling out warranty registration...

This site is doing a fine job at emptying my wallet. Just picked up one for my water heater and ordered one for fridge and heater. Shopped local. It's small business Saturday

Yea, I know what you mean. Because of the advice here, I had to go out and get a Progressive EMS. Best money spent in a while.

Progressive Industries Portable Electrical Management Systems (EMS). It's a surge protector and more (low voltage, high voltage, etc.). Excellent quality and warranty. And, unlike the surge protector I already had, it automatically restores power after the error condition ends.

Orifice screens

I live where yellowjackets, muddobbers, etc., are everywhere and have had problems in the past with other RVs. I went to Home Depot, Lowes, and others, and purchased a roll of METAL, close weave (1/32"?) screening (hardware cloth) and 3 rolls of extremely sticky (I can't remember the brand) tape (1 white to match exterior white paint, 1 black to match dark exterior paint, and 1 "silver" heat-resistant for warm exhaust outlets). Using the aforementioned supplies, I covered EVERY inlet/outlet I could find (excepting the bottom of my TT and for that I used expanding foam), including the A/C openings, kitchen exhaust outlet and anything else I could find. Admittedly, it took some artistic manipulation to get everything taped down tightly enough to withstand 65 mph winds on the road, but thus far the tape has held up well - no screens leaving or even flapping around; I'm more than satisfied. I did make one concession - I bought a commercial, custom-fit screen for the furnace exhaust given its pretty extreme outgoing heat. A caveat: after "screening", insure small slits cut in tape to allow rainwater to escape and not pool which might seep through roofing, resulting in leakage through roof material.
