Nail on side of tire!
Went camping this weekend and pulled into site, put the chocks down and notice this nail sticking in my tire!!!! My buddy says it looks like it may just be a tack nail. Pulled it out....it was a 2" nail!!
Called USAA and they had a guy come out and put my spare on.
Thank goodness we didn't have a blow out on the way out to the SP. I have no idea where I picked that nail up.
Thank you USAA!!!!
Any suggestions on a type of new tire I should be buying?? Besides one without a nail in it? :hihi:

Nail on side of tire!
What about plugging it. That's what I would do.

Nail on side of tire!
Unfortunately if it is in the side of the tire, I don't believe it can be plugged or patched. More than likely it would fail and it is not worth the damage it may inflict.

No tire should be plugged or patched if the puncture is in the shoulder or sidewall.

Can’t legally patch a sidewall.
Personally, if your other tires are in good shape, I would buy the exact same tire that you have on the rest of the TT. If they are getting worn or old and you are considering replacing them too. Then I would strongly recommend looking for the LT.
Best of luck,

you can put an inner tube in the tire that would cost less and then just use that tire as a spare..

Jagiven, I will probably put the same make tire on. I would like to upgrade to a 5th wheel this year. Nail did go thru the side of tire. Really weird place. I was going to check out "Discount Tires" to see if they can order one for me.

I have had that happen twice. It is a sickening feeling to accept it but it weakens the side wall and can lead to a early blow out. That's why they don't patch them.

I have done that when there's a nail hole in the tread area,
but don't know if I would try that with a nail hole in the sidewall.

Re: Nail on side of tire!
This happened to us on our second trip last summer. I hated replacing a tire with only 600 miles on it.
